The Quran will never have this problem, and never has done.

Also, God would inspire contradictory variants?

Manuscripts in Hebrews 1:3 shows us that a scribe changed 'bears' to 'manifests', then another scribe changed it back to 'bears' then later on, another one came & changed it back to 'manifests' and wrote in the margin:

"Fool and knave! Leave the old reading, DON'T change it!" (Bruce Metzger cited in: Paul D. Wegner's: Journey from Texts to Translations, The: The Origin and Development of the Bible, 2004 - p 223-4).

This for example
doesn't look like all variants are inspired by God. If all variants were inspired, we wouldn't expect early scribes to change/cross out readings but rather, they would of accepted them, then added variants and claim these are divinely inspired.

Many conservative scholars do not believe all variants are from God. In contrast, Muslim scholars don't have this problem regarding Quranic variants.

Also, there's a big differece between the Prophet Muhammad teaching divinely inspired variants, compared with Christians teaching this centuries after these books were written.

Bible doesn't teach us all variants are inspired and unlike the Quran, these variants in the Bible did (according to many scholars) arise because of accidental or intentional changes.mustie7noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-248234931266550822.post-37188182460125443762011-01-29T18:57:07.893-08:002011-01-29T18:57:07.893-08:00<plays the roll of a christian for today

The 'originals' are in the manuscripts we have. And we do have manuscripts that date all the way back to 50-60 years after Jesus. Mind you for the most part these are just parchments but hey something is better than nothing!

Not only that but *ahem* God could have inspired all those variants. Yeah I know that you guys have hadiths that say that the 7 ahruf of the Qur'an are divinely inspired, and we have no such thing....

But we do have a presuppositiion that allows us to believe it!

So take that!

Muslims!!!
