Al Qaeda Kill 21 People in New Year's Church Bombing in Egypt

Sadly Al-qaeda have struck again

Radicals such as Al Qaeda have been murdering Muslims and Christians for some time now. This time they have targeted the Coptic community claiming 21 lives and injuring others.

CAIRO (Reuters) - A car bombing outside a church killed 21 people in Egypt's northern city of Alexandria as worshippers gathered to mark the New Year, security and medical sources said on Saturday.

The Interior Ministry earlier said 24 people were also wounded in the bombing.

Muslim scholars are AGAINST Al Qaeda

We have already seen Shaykh Waleed Basyouni trying to reach out to the extremists in an attempt to guide them away from terrorism. Terrorism is NOT Islamic.

Egyptian born scholar confirms terrorism is unislamic

May Allah keep the people of Egypt safe from the terror of radicals such as al qaeda.

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt (Reuters) - A bomb killed at least 17 people outside a church in the Egyptian city of Alexandria early on New Year's Day and the Interior Ministry said a foreign-backed suicide bomber may have been responsible.

Dozens of people were wounded by the blast, which scattered body parts, destroyed cars and smashed windows. The attack prompted Christians to protest on the streets, and some Christians and Muslims hurled stones at each other.

Egypt has stepped up security around churches, banning cars from parking outside them, since an al Qaeda-linked group in Iraq issued a threat against the Church in Egypt in November.

Egypt's leaders were quick to call for unity, wary of any upsurge in sectarian strife or other tension as the country approaches a presidential election due in September amid some uncertainty about whether President Hosni Mubarak, 82, will run.

A statement on an Islamist website posted about two weeks before the blast called for attacks on Egypt's churches, listing among them the one hit. No group was named in the statement.

Pope Benedict, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, denounced violence against Christians in his New Year address and appealed for religious freedom and tolerance. He said he would host a summit of world religious leaders in Assisi in October to discuss how to promote peace.

Germany and Iraq condemned the attack.

Saturday's blast did not originate in any of the cars that were destroyed, an Interior Ministry statement on the official news agency said. "It is likely that the device which exploded was carried by a suicide bomber who died among others," it said. Continued...

  2. Our Prophet(saw) said that the Ummah is like one body. If a part is in pain, the whole body will suffer. In that vein, Al Qaeda are like a cancer. So long as they exist, the Ummah will suffer. Because of their actions, there will be backlash against the Muslims at large.

  3. A mosque was also damaged with 8 Muslims being wounded.
the thing that annoys me is christians take this for their evangelist agenda. 99% of al queda attacks are against muslims. non-muslims HARDLY are targets and the rare times they are, missionaries claim how christians are treated because of 'sharia'. it seems to me christians don't even care the hundreds of muslims lose their lives every month in afghanistan, iraq and pakistan.

before david wood blocked me and deleted my posts, i saved a little dialogue he had with amy (wft101) in which david tried to convince her how al queda was justified by islam. of course with God's guidance amy responded very well and david stopped commenting and IMMEDIATELY started a new post. you could tell this was gonna happen because it was really obvious to see david getting edgy and used personal attacks by other christians to his only defence.

  6. @1moremuslim,

Yes, you are right. The source doe not confirm whether those who died were all Christian or not. The same applies to the injured.

I have removed the word "Christians" from the title and chnaged it to "people"

I just assumed they were Christians as it was outside a Church.

    Thanks
