Has ANY Christian Answered Dr Zakir Naik’s Biblical Numerical Contradictions?

In this 5 minute video, Dr Zakir Naik reels off a load of alleged numerical contradictions within the Bible. Contradictions can be harmonized by advancing “rounding off” and the idea of difficulties not pertaining to the same event BUT can they ALL be answered in a satisfying manner?

Bible: Huge and unbelievable mathematical contradictions?

There is a transcript of this video – appended in the comment section. I wonder what the lay Christian would make of such a list of problems.

In the Christian world, the Bible was generally immune to criticism and such scrutiny until the Renaissance:

“People’s view of the Bible went through dramatic changes down the centuries. For a long time and until the fourteenth century, the Bible was looked upon as the “Word of God” which could contain no error or false information…” [1]

“Slow but steady change, however, started to occur to this attitude with the advent of the Renaissance, which began in the fourteenth century Italy before spreading to other parts of Europe…” [1]

“The Biblical texts which remained immune to criticism even when all kinds of writings and concepts were being thoroughly re-examined, had finally to surrender itself to the methods of document criticism”. [1]

It’s interesting to note this enlightenment as to the Bible’s unreliability only began to sprout its shoots in the fourteenth century whilst a religion in the East had ALREADY taught the Bible was a corrupted text – Islam.

Therefore woe be unto those who write the Scripture with their hands and then say, "This is from Allah," that they may purchase a small gain therewith. Woe unto them for that their hands have written, and woe unto them for that they earn thereby. [Pikthal’s translation of Quran, 2:79]

  1. The entire video description:

'Mathematics' is a branch, which is closely associated with science, with which you can solve problems, etc. There are thousands of contradictions in the Bible - hundreds deal with mathematics, and I'll first touch on few of them. It is mentioned in Ezra, Ch. No.2, Verse No.1, and Nehemiah, Ch. No.7, Verse No.6, the context that... 'When the people returned from exile, from Babylon, when king Nebucheldeser of Babylon, when he released the men from Israel, they came back from captivity' - and the list of the people are given. The list is given in Ezra, Ch. No.2, Verse No.2 to 63, and Nehemiah Ch. No.7, Verse No.7 up to 65; the list is given with the names as well as number of people released. In these 60 Verses there are no less than 18 times - the name is exactly the same but the number is different. There are no less than 18 contradictions in less than 60 Verses, of these two Chapters. This is the list - I don't have time to run through the list - There are no less than 18 different contradictions in less than 60 Verses. Further it is mentioned in Ezra, Ch. No.2 Verse No.64 that... 'The total congregation, if you add up... if you add up, it comes to 42,360.' And if you read in Nehemiah, Ch. No.7, Verse No.66, there also the total is the same 42,360. But if you add up all these verses - which I had to do my homework - this is the list of Ezra... this is the list of Nehemiah. Ezra Ch. No 2, Nehemiah Ch. No 7 - If you add up - I had to do my homework...if you add up, Ezra Ch. No. 2 - It does not come to 42,360 - it comes to 29,818. And if you add up Nehemiah, Ch. No. 7, even then it does not come to 42,360 - It comes to 31,089. The author of the Bible, presumed to be 'Almighty God', does not know simple addition. If you give this problem, even to a person who has passed elementary school, he will be able to get the right answer. If you add up all the 60 Verses, it is so easy. Almighty God did not know adding -- Nauzubillah... if we presume, that this is the word of God. Further if we read, in Ezra Ch. No. 2, Verse No. 65, it says...There were 200 singing men and women - Nehemiah Ch. No. 7, Verse No. 67...'There were 245 singing men and women.' Were they 200 - or were they 245 singing men and women? Context is the same - A mathematical contradiction. It is mentioned in the 2nd Kings, Ch. No 24, Verse No 8, that...'Jehoiachin was 18 years old, when he began to reign Jerusalem, and he reigned for 3 months and 10 days. 2nd Chronicles, Ch. No 36, Verse No 9, says that...'Jehoiachin was 8 years old when he began to reign and he reigned for 3 months, 10 days. Was Jehoiachin 18 years when he began to reign, or was he 8 years old? Did he reign for 3 months, or did he reign for 3 months 10 days? Further it is mentioned in the 1st Kings, Ch. No 7, Verse No 26, that...'In Solomon's temple, in his molten sea, he had 2000 baths. In 2nd Chronicles, Ch. No 4, Verse No 5, he had 3000 baths. Did he have 2000 baths or did he have 3000 baths? -- That, I leave it upon Dr. William Campbell to decide which is correct. There is a clear-cut mathematical contradiction. Further more it is mentioned in the First Kings, Ch. No. 15, Verse No. 33, that... 'Basha, he died in the 26th year of reign of Asa.' And 2nd Chronicles Ch. No 16, Verse No 1, says that...'Basha invaded Judah in the 36th years of the reign of Asa.' How can Basha invade 10 years after his death? - It is unscientific.

  2. james white endorsed 2 responses from mr shamoun regarding a debate bewteen samuel green and Abdullah Kunde i just had a quick read of them and they are not very good same old argument of inconsistency levelled both by shamoun and white which is getting old and the feeling that they cannot answer the objections to the what the crucifixion was supposed to have achieved. the real reason is of course both white and green have not come out well when they have debated brother abdullah.
White is also still looking for a consistent Islamic debater looooooooooool, it looks like no one can be consistent with him,not catholics, mormons, even evangelicals,so i dont know why he keeps levelling this accusation,i guess he belives the more you say it the more will believe it.

  3. The Star—Devout Muslims donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to one of Canada’s largest Islamic organizations on the promise that the cash would be used to help the poor.

But only one in four dollars donated to a special pool of money at the Islamic Society of North America Canada (ISNA Canada) actually reached the needy.

Mismanagement of more than $600,000 is among the findings in a scathing audit obtained by the Star.

A “very small portion . . . is distributed to the poor and needy and the major portion is spent on the administration of the centre,” concluded the 2010 audit of the previous four years.

ISNA Canada is embroiled in controversy, with the audit revealing the practice of giving free perks to family members of a top official; the improper issuing of charitable tax receipts; and the diversion of charity money to private businesses. At the centre of it all is long-time secretary general Mohammad Ashraf, who has recently announced he is stepping down.

Ashraf would not answer a series of questions from the Star.

“Don’t ask me anything,” Ashraf told a reporter who visited the organization’s Mississauga headquarters, marked by a graceful minaret overlooking the Queen Elizabeth Way. The 73-year-old microbiologist said he is “being transitioned into retirement” and that he is “restricted” from commenting on the audit

May Allah bless you brother Maratsafin and continue to bless the work of this site and brother Yahya... Amin!

I could not agree with you more brother Maratsafin. I have that partcular debate already broken down in a few days insh"Allah I will have it uploaded with commentary.

Simply amazing that Green did and said the things he did, completely off topic, and btw I plan on uploading the 'Salvation' debate that White and Kunde had. You guys remember White talking about that last September? Than all of a sudden radio silence.

Mash'Allah brother Kunde has White on the defensive trying to elaborate one very interesting position. If anything Kunde showed that NO CHRISTIAN (not even White) has assurance of salvation.

I have studied some of Christian theology about salvation. What we hear on Stations like ABN: Believe in Jesus and you are saved, is an open and clear deception. No Christian can affirm he is indeed saved. The catholics are worried about their works, the Calvinists are worried if their faith is a saving faith or a false faith.
That is why James White always skips the subject of assurance.

well said bro , and may I add that Christians generally critiques Muslims because we believe that God promised us salvation and his promise is true , the funny thing is that they are on the same boat with us.

I'd like to add one point , the reason why we Muslims don't jump around saying "I am saved , I am saved" is because in order to be saved you must die as a Muslim , but we are all human beings , we do not know the future ! does any of us know he/she is going to die as a Muslim ? we all hope so but we dont know so because we dont know the future , only God knows.

the Christians are in the same boat here . can any christian right now claim that he/she will die as a christian ? No they cant therefore they are not sure they are saved.

    CASE CLOSED.

But according to Islamic teachings Muslims go to the HELL FIRE, depending on there sin's, and are only let out after they have completed there sentence. So your not saved from the HELL FIRE.

Well that's not totaly true there are a few ways to totaly avoid teh Hell Fire, Dying in Jihad, Dying on Haj in Mecca, dying in child birth etc...

  13. Moderate radical.
Also, in Islamic teachings, God forgives sins of whom he wants, nothing would compel God to do anything. Unlike in Christianity God is compelled, after giving his begotten son, to forgive those who believe in him.

Azra Mustafa, a 45-year-old housekeeper in Lahore, Pakistan, recently converted to Islam from Christianity, partly out of fear for her family's safety. She and her children, above, receive lessons at home on Arabic and the Qur’an from a teacher.

LAHORE, PAKISTAN—Dog-eared and tattered, the blue book is an inch thick and sits on a dented metal table in the corner office of Jamia Naeemia, an Islamic school tucked in a scattering of cement-walled homes and roadside shops.

Many believe the book offers the promise of safety and perhaps even a better chance at prosperity.

The book is a registry used to document religious converts to Islam and officials at Jamia Naeemia say business is brisk nowadays.

At least 20 to 25 former Christians adopt Islam each week by pledging an oath and signing a green and white document in which they accept Islam as “the most beautiful religion” and promise to “remain in the religion of Islam for the rest of my life, acknowledging that blessings are only from God.”

Human rights advocates say it’s no surprise some of Pakistan’s 3 million Christians are adopting Islam. These are vexing and dangerous days for the country’s religious minorities.

Last autumn, politician Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab, Pakistan’s most prosperous province, began to campaign on behalf of a Christian woman named Asia Bibi, who had been sentenced to death for blasphemy. On Jan. 4, with debate over the future of Pakistan’s blasphemy law at a fever pitch, Taseer was gunned down by one of his personal security guards.

  15. These are the passages jihadists appeal to when they attack non-Muslims. And yet, for some strange reason, it's racist and Islamophobic for us to take note of these passages.

MOSCOW—Moscow saw its second suicide attack in less than 12 months on Monday as a terrorist assault on the Russian capital’s busiest airport left over 30 dead, officials said.

Preliminary reports suggest a bomb was detonated by a suicide bomber as passengers arrived at Domodedovo airport’s international arrivals gate at 4:40 p.m. (13:40 GMT).

Health and emergency officials said 35 people died and many dozens more were injured.

Planes from London and Brussels, as well as Greece, Ukraine and Egypt, had landed in the 30 minutes preceding the attack. A British Airways plane heading for Domodedovo returned to London when the news broke.

Law enforcement officials said the power of the blast was equal to 5 kg of TNT and that the bomb was packed with metal objects to cause maximum damage. A RIA Novosti correspondent at the scene reported floors and staircases covered in blood.

YouTube footage showed the bodies of the dead and injured lying in a smoke-filled arrivals zone.

Media reports of second suicide bomber have not been confirmed.

A visibly shaken President Dmitry Medvedev told officials in a televised meeting that, "From the preliminary information we have, it was a terrorist attack.” (Read more.)

Security sources have named an ethnic Russian Christian who converted to Islam as the prime suspect in Monday's deadly suicide bombing at a Moscow airport.

Sources close to the investigation said that Vitaly Razdobudko, a 32-year-old from the southern Russian city of Stavropol, was being sought in connection with the attack, the Kommersant newspaper reported yesterday. It is not known whether Razdobudko is suspected of being the actual suicide bomber or an accomplice.

Razdobudko went missing in October last year, with his wife, according to police sources in Stavropol. He is believed to have been an Orthodox Christian, of Slavic appearance, who later converted to Islam.

The bomb, which ripped through the arrivals hall of Domodedovo Airport on Monday afternoon, killed 35 people including one Briton and left 180 injured. Russian authorities have released little information, and eyewitness accounts diverge wildly. Some speak of a male suicide bomber, some of a female bomber; in some testimonies, the bomber detonated a suicide vest, while in others the bomb was in a suitcase.

The first official statement about the attack came yesterday afternoon, when a representative of Russia's Anti-Terror Committee denied that security services had learnt of a possible attack before Monday, and attacked journalists for speculating on who might have been behind the blast. "Only the Investigative Committee can say what and how things happened, and everyone else should be silent," a spokesman for the committee said.

The Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, who in the aftermath of the attack said that "revenge is inevitable", has already said that the attack had no links to Chechnya. Russia's

  17. Cleric open to new site for Islamic center," by Jay Tokasz in the Buffalo News, January 29:

The Muslim cleric at the center of a controversial plan to build an Islamic center near ground zero told The Buffalo News on Saturday he would consider another location for the project if a suitable site was offered.
"If someone is willing to offer another site ... I would move," said Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who was in Western New York to address concerns about the project. "I would move because my whole life is about improving relationships with people, and once the project is established, it will have an impact."

It was the first time Abdul Rauf appeared to back away from building the center two blocks from where the World Trade Center fell....

Any alternative site would have to be "on par, or even better," than the current proposed site in a former coat store at 51 Park Place in Manhattan, where Abdul Rauf and real estate investor Sharif el-Gamal sought to build a 13-story center.

So far, no such offer has materialized, Abdul Rauf said in an interview with The Buffalo News editorial board.

Abdul Rauf also acknowledged that he and Gamal have different ideas of what the project should be, forcing Abdul Rauf to re-examine whether it was still possible to fulfill his vision for an interfaith center at the Park Place locale.

"Mr. Gamal is more focused on the Islam aspect than on the multifaith aspect of it," said Abdul Rauf. "He came at this from the point of view of wanting to establish an Islamic center."

Gamal has referred to the project as Park51; Rauf describes it as Cordoba House, a reference to a historical period in Cordoba, Spain, about 1,000 years ago when Muslims, Jews, and Christians coexisted and created a prosperous center of intellectual, spiritual, cultural and commercial life.

Whose vision will win out isn't clear. Gamal has a sizable ownership stake in the Park Place property, but Abdul Rauf is well-known internationally among Muslims and is currently on an extended speaking tour to raise interest, and possibly money, for the project....
