Katya Koren and Islamophobic Bigots

The Islamophobic bigots are out in full force again whilst trampling on the sensitivities of the death of a young Muslim girl, Katya Koren.

Firstly, may Allah grant her forgiveness and Heaven. Ameen.

Secondly, for the bigots, the reports of her being killed for “religious” reasons are unverified so please stop posting them. In fact, reports suggest she was murdered by a psychologically disturbed classmate. There appears to be no religious motive behind the murder.

In addition, honour killings are not Islamic as we have already seen here:

http://thefactsaboutislam.blogspot.com/2009/08/honor-killings.html

Could the bigots kindly read this report and remove their misleading articles/blog posts or at least look into the matter…

Reports On Murder Of Beauty Pageant Contestant May Incorrectly Blame Islam

Margaret Hartmann —These are the facts: 19-year-old Katya Koren was found dead in a forest on the Crimean peninsula. She had participated in several regional beauty pageants with the goal of becoming Miss Ukraine. It's been widely reported that she was stoned to death by Muslim teens for participating in pageants, but her murder may actually have nothing to do with Islam.

Today the Daily Mail reported that police are investigating claims that Koren was killed by three local teens who say her murder is justified by the religion. The paper also says:

One of the three - named as 16-year-old Bihal Gaziev - is under arrest and told police that Katya had 'violated the laws of Sharia'. Gaziev has said he has no regrets about her death.

There isn't much to the Daily Mail piece, but it's been picked up by dozens of other news outlets, which feature headlines like this one from Fox News: "Muslims Stone Teen To Death For Entering Beauty Pageant." Don't read the comments, or you'll be tempted to put your fist through your screen.

There's just one problem: Authorities say Koren's death wasn't motivated by religion. According to The Telegraph, police say she was killed by a psychologically disturbed classmate. He allegedly offered her a ride on his moped, then robbed and possibly raped her before beating her to death with a rock. "A student did it, killing his classmate. There is no other underlying reason, neither religious nor linked with inter-ethnic conflicts," says police officer Sergei Reznikov.

The Telegraph reports that the area has no history of crimes being committed in the name of Sharia law. Gaziev is in police custody, and has reportedly confessed to the killing. Locals say he was obsessed with Koren, and he's being evaluated to see if he's mentally able to stand trial. According to a translated report from a Crimean government website, when asked why he committed the crime, Gaziev said, "I just wanted to kill her."

There certainly have been crimes committed around the world by people who distort the teachings of Islam to justify extreme misogyny. People have also twisted the words of just about every other religion in a similar way. It seems very possible that Koren's horrific death had nothing to do with the fact that she was Muslim. Her faith being used to fuel more misconceptions about Islam adds another disturbing layer to what's already a deeply chilling crime

NOTE: The newspaper which initially reported as an honour killing, The Daily Mail, is a right wing newspaper which appeals more to the bigots and the racists within the UK.

You are right that Honor killing is not really Islamic per say. However it is only in countries dominated by Muslims that the punishment for those that kill their Woman is either only a few years in prison, or what ever legal consequences there are, they are totally ignored. Below is a few examples.

Part of article 340 of the Penal Code states that "he who discovers his wife or one of his female relatives committing adultery and kills, wounds, or injures one of them, is exempted from any penalty."[71] This has twice been put forward for cancellation by the government, but was retained by the Lower House of the Parliament, in 2003: a year in which at least seven honor killings took place.[72] Article 98 of the Penal Code is often cited alongside Article 340 in cases of honor killings. “Article 98 stipulates that a reduced sentence is applied to a person who kills another person in a ‘fit of fury’”.

Syria: Article 548 states that "He who catches his wife or one of his ascendants, descendants or sister committing adultery (flagrante delicto) or illegitimate sexual acts with another and he killed or injured one or both of them benefits from a reduced penalty, that should not be less than 2 years in prison in case of a killing."

Morocco: Revisions to Morocco's criminal code in 2003 helped improve women's legal status by eliminating unequal sentencing in adultery cases. Article 418 of the penal code granted extenuating circumstances to a husband who kills, injures, or beats his wife and/or her partner, when catching them in flagrante delicto while committing adultery. While this article has not been repealed, the penalty for committing this crime is at least now the same for both genders.

Pakistan: Honor killings are known as karo kari (Sindhi: ڪارو ڪاري) (Urdu: کاروکاری). The practice is supposed to be prosecuted under ordinary killing, but in practice police and prosecutors often ignore it.[76] Often a man must simply claim the killing was for his honor and he will go free. Nilofar Bakhtiar, advisor to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, stated that in 2003, as many as 1,261 women were killed in honor killings.[77] On December 8, 2004, under international and domestic pressure, Pakistan enacted a law that made honor killings punishable by a prison term of seven years, or by the death penalty in the most extreme cases.[78] Women's rights organizations were, however, wary of this law as it stops short of outlawing the practice of allowing killers to buy their freedom by paying compensation to the victim's relatives. Women's rights groups claimed that in most cases it is the victim's immediate relatives who are the killers, so inherently the new law is just eyewash. It did not alter the provisions whereby the accused could negotiate pardon with the victim's family under the Islamic provisions. In March 2005 the Pakistani parliament rejected a bill which sought to strengthen the law against the practice of honor killing.[79] However, the bill was brought up again, and in November 2006, it passed.[80] It is doubtful whether or not the law would actually help women.

Egypt: A number of studies on honor crimes by The Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law, at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, includes one which reports on Egypt's legal system, noting a gender bias in favor of men in general, and notably article 17 of the Penal Code: judicial discretion to allow reduced punishment in certain circumstance, often used in honor killings case.

In Palestine there is the case just recently of Aya Baradiya. She was a young woman killed by her uncle and thrown down a well. Thank God there was finally a back lash to change the LAW on Honor Killing.

President Abbas has urged the legislation to update the law to call for the highest penalty. This is good news however it comes a little to late for Aya Baradiya and at this writing there is no word on if the legislation has in fact made these changes. Not to mention Hamas response to any changes.

Now with that said, two Latin American countries Brazil and Columbia have changed their laws in the last few decades.

In Brazil, until 1991 wife killings were considered to be non-criminal 'honor killings'; in just one year, nearly eight hundred husbands killed their wives. Similarly, in Colombia, until 1980, a husband legally could kill his wife for committing adultery.

Turkey gives out life sentences for honor killing even sentencing whole families to life.

So you see the point is not that honor killing is Islamic, it is that in majority Muslim societies the punishment for those that commit this crime is either non existent or very week, and in those countries where there is a punishment it is often ignored.

Hopefully Muslim societies will be dragged into the 21st century. Kicking and screaming, and drenched in the blood of their daughters, wives, and sisters, but into the present Muslims will go.

I am wondering where did you get such a beautiful saying

Is that in the Qur'an? What Surah can I find that in?

I have looked in the Qur'an and I can not find it, can you please tell me where you found this beautiful saying? Is this a saying of the Prophet (PBUH) is it in the Hadeeth?

I live in Canada, and I can tell you, honor killing happens more often than you think. Typical stories that happen in the "Christian countries", a man seduces a woman, she gets along with him, live with him few months, she discovers that his bad and pathetic Character, she leaves him. The seducer cannot stand that a woman dropped him, he becomes furious to know that his ex girlfriend is with another one, he tries to take back his honor by killing the woman.
Google " Gerbet jean paul" he was released yesterday, he spent just 10 years for a MURDER.

  8. yahya according to loonwatch this woman was not even muslim?

anyways to the christian anonymous. how big of an idiot are you? now your asking for sources from the author of the article?? can you really be that desperate?

and actually, 70% of all honor killings happen in India. go visit stophonorkillings. A majority of them are done by hindu's.

article 269 of the haiti penal code excuses a man from any penalty if he murders his wife. and everyone knows haiti is 96% christian. in uganda and kenya men who murder their wives is often dismissed by police. and everyone knows those countries are christian dominant. as a matter of fact uganda has been implementing christian laws in their governing.

all muslim countries you mentioned RUN ON CULTURE. Otherwise alcohol and prostitution would actually be illegal there. pakistan is not as muslim country either. otherwise they'd have a dress code, otherwise they'd ban nightclubs and bars, otherwise.... you know what i'm saying. pointing your finger a a so called muslim country without knowing what actually goes on over there is simply david wood material.

i challenge anonymous. our history is very well recorded. may i have just one incident of honor killings in our golden age? okay let me make it easier for you. show me an article of an honor killing in malaysia, iran, saudi, azerbaijan, albania, qatar, uae, bahrain, maldives, brunei, kazakhstan, bosnia, kuwait... i can go on.

oh and btw since hamas and fatah are one now, they just recently passed an honor killing bill.

O the desperation that you Muslims have.

    First to 1moreMuslim

That is not a case of "HONOR KILLING" that is a case of "If I can't have you know one else can" That is about POSSESSION, not about honor so sorry.

But even if some how it is, then was the criminal charged? Was "Ones Honor" a positive defence?

Was he welcomed as a hero by his friends and family as is the case in some savage Muslim countries?

What was the sentence? I'm sure it was more then a fine or a year of so in prison. I'm guessing at least 10 years, more likely 20 years since Canada doesn't have a death penalty.

See thats the problem, in the civilized world like Canada or the USA we prosecute murder's to the fullest extent of the law. Its not perfect but at least we give it the good old college try.

Unlike the savage barbaric Muslim countries I high lighted. Facts that you completely ignored.

The same goes for you ALI, we prosecute these savages in a lot of savage barbaric Muslim countries they are either not prosecuted, if they are then "defending ones honor" is a positive defense. If they are found guilty they are given a slap on the wrist, maybe a fine or maybe only a few years in jail. Also in some they are even welcomed as Hero's.

The case you highlighted about the two brothers killing their sister. In the barbaric savage criminal justice system that is Islam. The family i.e. the Father could forgive them and the two boys could pay blood money. There by no justice for the murder victim.

This actually happens in Pakistan. There are cases where a brother kills another brothers wife and the husband forgives his brother for killing his wife. Or Sons have killed daughters and the father forgives them etc...

    Complete barbarity complete savages.

  13. BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) — Two people were stabbed in a seemingly random attack at a Twin Cities library.

After the incident Wednesday night at the Oxboro Library in Bloomington, 35-year-old Samira Abdalla Salim was arrested.

Salim was no stranger to the Oxboro Library. She had a reputation for handing out the Koran and talking religion outside the building.

“They had some issues with her harassing other patrons,” said Bloomington Police Commander Mark Stehlik.

But it’s what investigators say she did on Wednesday night that surprised everyone.

“I never thought she would do that. She was very nice,” said Anisa Ahmed, Salim’s neighbor.

Salim is accused of stabbing two people. The first victim was a woman who was walking into the library.

“The next thing she knew, she felt a sharp pain in the middle of her back and realized she had been stabbed,” said Stehlik.

The second was a security guard who heard the victim’s cry for help. He went to talk to Salim in the parking lot.

“Spoke to her briefly and then she actually stabbed him as well. Stabbed him in the abdomen,” said Stehlik.

Because Salim lived next door to the library, witnesses identified her right away and she was arrested in minutes.

“Nobody was worried about her committing a violent act,” said Stehlik.

Fourteen-year-old Ahmed lives next door to Salim and only knows a friendly lady whose kids were friends with her sisters.

“She’d greet us every morning … and she’d get to know us,” said Ahmed.

Now the question everyone wants answered is why a woman who was not seen as a threat suddenly became violent.

“It’s unusual. Somebody minding their own business, walking into library, it doesn’t happen too often where they become victim of assault like this,” said Stehlik.

The victims had minor injuries. Police say they weren’t stabbed with a knife but a sharp, pointy object.

How can you call me not a Muslim that is Haram. What right do you have to do that.

    "Narated by Anas ibn Malim:
    Hatdit no. 2526
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Three things are the roots of faith: to refrain from (killing) a person who utters, "There is no god but Allah" and not to declare him unbeliever whatever sin he commits, and not to excommunicate him from Islam for his any action; and jihad will be performed continuously since the day Allah sent me as a prophet until the day the last member of my community will fight with the Dajjal (Antichrist). The tyranny of any tyrant and the justice of any just (ruler) will not invalidate it. One must have faith in Divine decree.

There's 60 Muslim countries in the world. Lets look at Malaysia where sharia law is used. How often do you here of religious persecution, or gender oppression there? You don't.
Saudi recently sentenced 2 boys to be beheaded for shooting their sister. Is that nit justice? It's much more than the West where a murderer can get baile dout for "good behavior". sick system.

I was showing a comparison. Malaysia while not completely perfect on Islamic law STILL is pretty close. Go ahead bring this up to any Muslim. They'll tell the same. You were saying how Muslim countries don't prosecute for murder. I just gave you an example

Okay here you go. Pakistan is the most westernized Muslim country you'll find, it has a red light district in Lahore, it HAS NO DRESS CODE (yes you'll see women wear short and revealing clothing) it has a corrupt government, a corrupt police force in every city and town, it has corrupt sharia judges that get paid by the suspects so they're pardoned, there is little justice, there's lawless areas where people do whatever, they've legalized alcohol, they've legalized basically all things haraam. What more is their to say?"

Oh so much to comment on I will have to break this down into points.

    1. Pakistan the most westernized country???? LOL Yeah cause in the west we have BLASPHEMY LAWS, WE HAVE LAWS THAT REQUIRE A WOMAN TO HAVE 4 MALE WITNESS TO PROVE SHE WAS RAPED, THE WEST HAS APOSTATE LAWS. And when someone trys to change these barbaric laws, the Islamic savages kills the law maker, and the Killer is welcomed as a hero. Yeah so western. Not only that but there are huge demonstration by Muslims claiming that the government is trying to take away Pakistans "ISLAMIC IDENTITY" yeah so westernized.

2.Pakistan has a red light district with Brothels. Yes that is true, the largest brothel is in the shawdow of Pakistans largest and oldest Mosq. One of the main complaints by the Muslima whores who sell their bodies, other then the low pay. Evidently a piece of Muslima tale is pretty cheep. Only a few rupies. The largest complaint is that the same men who condem then and wish them stoned to death, are the same men who visit them on Friday. Actaully after Friday prayers the Muslima whores are very very busy. Like Mc Donalds during a luch rush.

As far as Alchohol and Western clothes, funny you mention Maylasia as a "ISLAMIC COUNTRY". From WIKIPEDIA

"Although Malaysia is a self-proclaimed Islamic country, alcohol is widely available on licensed outlet; however, some states (notably Kelantan and Terengganu) ban alcohol. With the exception of tax-free islands (Labuan, Langkawi, Tioman) and duty free shops (for example in Johor Bahru),"

So only a few states ban Alchhol in your ISLAMIC SHARIA PRACTCING COUNTRY, and it is widely available in "licensed" outlets. Just a fyi in a lot of states in the US, there are cities and even entire counties that ban the sale of Alchohol. As far as a Islamic dress code is concerned for Woman, it looks like only a few area's have such a dress code.

Well I think I am done exposing your desperation to excuse the lack of laws to punsih those that murder their WHORING MUSLIM WOMAN.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Ali

This keeps getting better. Since Malaysia by your standard is a Islamic Sharia State, lets take a look how this APARTIDE Islamic Sharia State treats non Muslims.

Is there freedom of relegion in Maylasia for Muslism who want to convert to another relegion? The Answer is NO.

"but it is illegal in some states for a Muslim to convert to another religion. Muslims that do convert are sometimes fined or imprisoned."

What about the freedom of Non Muslims to build relegious buildings or even cementarys wiht out execive government overiste or regulations? The answer is NO.

"Non-Muslim worship sites and cemeteries can only be established with permission from the government. Sometimes religious minorities face long delays in obtaining approval for these sites. House churches are also strongly discouraged."

What about freely distributing Christian lititure or even freely publishing Christian lititure?

"Christian literature is restricted in Malaysia. As of 2005, Malay-language Bibles are required to have the words “Not for Muslims” on the cover and are not permitted to be used in Malay homes. Further, these Bibles are only allowed to be distributed in Christian churches or bookstores. In late January 2008, a customs officer confiscated two boxes containing 32 Bibles from a Christian woman in the Kuala Lumpur airport as she was returning from the Philippines, even though she had a letter from her parish priest stating that the Bibles were for use in her church. The Bibles were later returned to the woman"

    Voice of the Martyrs

Maylasia also has "Islamic Retreat Centers" really there nothing more then Islamic "RE EDUCATION CENTERS".

"The Malaysian government calls the facilities -- retreat centers. Muslims willingly come there to strengthen their faith.

CBN News spoke to one Christian who wanted to remain anonymous, in fear he would be taken back to one of the "faith purification" facilities.

"They were clearly angry and they wanted to kill me, but they did not harm me physically," he recalled. "I know of many others. They force you to recite Islamic prayers and the Koran, to do all the things you're suppose to do as a Muslim."

"They're trying to force us to believe what we can't believe," the man continued. "These re-education centers come from the power of darkness."

    Thanks for playing

This article is from 2006, I'm not sure if the law was actually changed or not. If it was then thats a good thing. But as you can see changing the law was delt with opposition by the Relegious Party in Pakistan.

Pakistan's national assembly has voted to amend the country's strict Sharia laws on rape and adultery.
Until now rape cases were dealt with in Sharia courts. Victims had to have four male witnesses to the crime - if not they faced prosecution for adultery.

Now civil courts will be able to try rape cases, assuming the upper house and the president ratify the move.

The reform has been seen as a test of President Musharraf's stated commitment to a moderate form of Islam.

"It is a historic bill because it will give rights to women and help end excesses against them," Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz told parliament after the vote.

Religious parties boycotted the vote, saying the bill encouraged "free sex".

A woman is raped every two hours and gang-raped every eight hours in Pakistan, according to the country's independent Human Rights Commission.

Correspondents say these figures are probably an under-estimation as many rapes are not reported.

Campaigners say Pakistan's laws have made it virtually impossible to prosecute rape.

Attempts to pass a new bill failed in September in the face of angry opposition.

The version of the Women's Protection Bill put before legislators then caused such an outcry that parliament was prorogued.

It would have allowed alleged rapists to be tried under civil as well as Islamic law.

Human rights activists said this would have created confusion, allowing powerful religious lobbies to manipulate what is seen as a weak judicial system.

Now rape will be tried under civil law, the Pakistan Penal Code.

Sex outside marriage, which has always been illegal, will still be tried by both civil and Sharia courts, depending on which system the complainant chooses, the BBC's Syed Shoaib Hasan in Karachi says.

Pakistan's religious parties called the new legislation "a harbinger of lewdness and indecency in the country", and against the strictures of the Koran and Sharia law.

They have threatened nationwide protests over the revised bill.

Addressing parliament on Wednesday, the leader of the six-party MMA Islamic alliance, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, said the bill would "turn Pakistan into a free-sex zone".

"Existing laws are correct and should be maintained...The changes are not in line with Islamic teaching."

The government insisted that some of the MMA's proposals had been included in the bill.

    Lashings

Rape and adultery in Pakistan are dealt with under the Hudood Ordinance, a controversial set of Islamic laws introduced from 1979 by Gen Zia-ul-Haq.

They include sections prescribing lashing and stoning as punishments for adultery.

The bill tabled in the summer and withdrawn was then reviewed by a panel of ulema, or Islamic scholars, who suggested three revisions.

    Here is another BBC article

"While the government called the legislation "historic", the religious parties are calling it "un-Islamic" and "a secular conspiracy" against an Islamic Pakistan."

  35. anonymous, a few months ago pakistan's religious council was foiund guilty of scamming people for their hajj money.

i have 20 channels from pakistan. i always watch religious shows on their. they speak on all topics from spirituality to law. a mufti that came onto to the show called amir liyaqat, said rape did NOT REQUIRE 4 witnesses as that is ONLY to ACCUSE somone of adultery.

culture runs pakistan. and THEY CLAIM they're religious.

honestly speaking muslims who gamble, rape and adulter are never going to admit there non-practicing muslims or not religious. they don't have the heart to say that. and this is both in the west and in muslim countries.
