A pre-debate comment: Does Islam Teach Pure Monotheism? Shadid Lewis vs. Anthony Rogers

Is it silly season? Is it?

I hope you're sitting down, we have a Christian missionary group setting up a debate 'Does Islam Teach Pure Monotheism?'

Now, even the one who has basic knowledge of Islam knows Islam teaches pure monotheism - all scholars of the faith will agree on this.

However, when you have a Christian apologist (Anthony Rogers) who actually believes an angel in the Old Testament is God one would not be so surprised such a debate is arranged as this Christian apologist's reckoning does not comply with orthodoxy, scholarship nor sound reasoning.

Here is a scholar to tell you what all other scholars of Islam will tell you - Islam is PURE MONOTHEISM:

"Our doctrine could not be more straight forward. The most pure, exalted, uncompromising monotheism: the clearest idea of God there has ever been" - Dr T J Winter

In fact, this 'debate' has already been executed in some capacity with Anthony Rogers' colleague (Sam Shamoun - who also, upon last check, shares similar views to Anthony Rogers). You can view the 'debate' here:

Having said that - this site may well feature a review for this debate as per Anthony Roger's previous debate: http://thefactsaboutislam.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/debate-review-does-prophet-muhammad.html

Jesus taught people to do the Will of God (according to Mark 3:35) in order to become his brothers, mothers or sisters. A Muslim means one who submits to the Will of God. Do you want to become a brother of Jesus? If yes, become a Muslim. Now is the time.

  4. Snowman whats funny is that both you and whats his name Ijaz still do not understand what AR position is on the ATL.

If you do then you are deliberately mis representing him by stating

"(Anthony Rogers) who actually believes an angel in the Old Testament is God"

So either wise up and understand what his position is or keep your mouth shut. Because you just continue to look foolish.

It's all about something called 'quality control'. Can't be having dodgy links being posted.

Ask him yourself, yes or no. Point at the mention of the angel of the Lord in your book and ask Rogers to give a yes or no answer as to whether he believes that particular angel in that particular setting is God or not.

Ask him to give you a simple yes or no.

  7. Snowman again you are demonstrating that you do not comprehend, when you write...

"yes or no answer as to whether he believes that particular angel in that particular setting is God or not."

    Snowman let me ask you.

Do you think that Anthony Rogers believes that particular angel in that particular setting is a CREATED BEING?

  8. Snowman I guess you took my advice and decided to shut up.

    Good choice.

  10. The word "angel" in Hebrew does not mean a created being. It refers to someone who brings a message. If God comes to a prophet with a message, the Hebrew language can use the word messenger. In Malachi 3:1 it speaks of two messengers, the latter of whom is "the Lord." Go look and see. Please quit being so desperate, unscholarly, and insincere when you attack people like Anthony. He knows these issues far better than you do.

  11. Sam shamoun says same thing about the angel. I think lots of Christians are uncomfortable with that belief.

  13. Snowman to save you some time, I already wrote a post debate review from the Muslim perspective a few weeks ago on David Wood's blog.

So just copy and paste this after the debate.

    Muslim Review of the debate.

All though the debate has not yet happened and even when it does I'm not going to watch it. In my un biased opinion the Muslim debater said Allah Akbar and gave a much better response and therefore he won the debate.

  14. IS ISLAM PURE MONOTHEISM ? ,ASKS A TRINITARIAN PAGAN .

    LET THE JEWISH SCHOLARS SPEAK.

....The journal Judaism in its summer 1993 edition carried a fascinating short article "Islam and the 'halakhah' by Marc B. Shapiro. It reviews the comments of many rabbis over the ages and show that views have varied from rabbi to rabbi. At the risk of oversimplifying, I would summarise the consensus as follows:

Christians were seen as polytheists, due to the doctrine of the Trinity. In the last few hundred years, rabbis have moderated this view slightly, but they still do not regard Christians as being fully monotheistic in the same manner as Jews or Muslims.
    Muslims were acknowledged as monotheists.

....Maimonides [1135-1204], the great Jewish Rabbi and scholar was of the view that Muslims were not idolaters , although, a heresy . He considered Christianity to be idolatry .

.... Rabbi Abraham , another top Rabbi and scholar of Judaism argued that, although Islamic religious practices should not be imitated, strictly speaking they do not fall under the biblical prohibition of following the ways of the Gentiles. This is so simply because "Muslims are monotheists who abhor idolatry."

....Rabbi Yosef Karo , another top scholar and Rabbi of medivial Judaism , author of the last great codification of Jewish law, the Shulchan Aruch, which is still authoritative for all Jews pertaining to their respective communities , was also of the view that Islam is a pure monotheistic faith .

....Rabbi Moshe Iserlish , an eminent Ashkenazic rabbi, talmudist, and scholar, renowned for his fundamental work of Halakha (Jewish law), entitled ha-Mapah , viewed Islam as a non-idolatrous and monotheistic faith

....Rabbi/scholar A.Geiger , who first propagated the borrowing theories , saw Islam as uncompromisingly monotheistic faith.

....Gustav Weil , Hartwig Derenbourg , Ignaz Goldziher , Ernest Renan , Theodor Nöldeke , Franz Rosenthal , Paul Kraus etc , all of them are highly regarded scholars in western scholarship of Islam consider Islam to be a monotheistic faith like Judaism .

....Recently , another Jewish scholar on Islam , Susannah Heschel , professor at Harvard university , writing a book on the history of European Jewish scholarship on Islam from the 1830s to the 1930s said ...." in their view, Islam was a “handmaiden” of Judaism — one that demonstrated the power of Jewish monotheism. " . She also said the Jewish image of Islam was of a rational religion that maintained Judaism's monotheism, rejection of anthropomorphism, and ethical law .

  15. The learned among the Jews consider Islam to be a non-idolatrous , uncompromisingly monotheistic faith and Christianity to be an idolatry and polytheism .

But we have ignorant apologists like Anthony Jokers who want to argue otherwise !
