Dr Qadhi speaks about the Charlie Hebdo attack
Sheikh Dr Yasir Qadhi begins by mentioning the lofty status
of the Prophet Muhammad (p) and the love Muslims have for him.
We learn that the Prophet (p) never took revenge for a
personal reason.
Attackers were "over-zealous and under-educated"
The perpetrators of the Charlie Hebdo attack were unlearned
in matters of religion and Dr Yasir Qadhi clearly states that Islam is against
the Charlie Hebdo attack. Dr Yasir points out that he has never come across a
single scholar who believes a lone Muslim is allowed to carry out executions
such as those of Charlie Hebdo.
Dr Yasir Qadhi does touch on the socioeconomic conditions,
power dynamics and the false pretext of freedom of speech. In his view, there
are other factors in play here - not merely offensive cartoons.
Dr Yasir Qadhi highlights the double standard where certain
types of expressions are not allowed while others are.
The purpose of the images was to intentionally insult. The
Charlie Hebdo publication of relatively unknown (less than 50,000 subscribers)
and now it's world famous and others are following in the same suit as this
magazine. Dr Yasir Qadhi asks people not to insult the Prophet (p).
The way to defend the Prophet (p) is to exhibit the
characteristics of the Prophet (p) of kindness, love and compassion.

Nouman Ali Khan gives advice to Muslims in the Charlie Hebdo aftermath
Nouman Ali Khan: There's nothing Islamic about the Charlie
Hebdo attacks. These attackers had no justification for their actions.
Criminals are criminals - regardless of what faith they are
from.
The perpetrators of these crimes are an embarrassment.
As Muslims we need to take collective responsibility. We have
a responsibility to do our part to make things better. Nouman Ali Khan also
advises Muslims not to view the cartoons.
As for hateful speech is offensive, Muslims have a right to be
offended by it. As Muslims we are against unjust killings but at the same time we are
offended by the ignorant and hateful speech against our religion and our
Prophet (p). The issues is, how do we react?
Nouman Ali Khan explores why there is so much hate speech
and propaganda against Muslims nowadays. Nouman Ali Khan calls for
introspection and points out the failings within our community. We need to change ourselves.
