Did Prophet Muhammad (salla Allah alayhi wa sallam) know how to read and write?
In the fourth century of Islam in the land of Andalusia Muslim Spain a huge controversy arose. A number of reputable Muslim Scholars began to claim that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (salla Allah alayhi wa sallam) who is referred to in the Qur'an and the previous scriptures as the 'unlettered' Prophet, actually knew how to read and write!
A court case was filed in Andalusia against such a "blasphemous" claim that went against the very text of the Qur'an, and so a theological and textual debate took place among some of the most well known Muslim Scholars of that era disputing the validity of this controversial claim.
Did Prophet Muhammad (salla Allah alayhi wa sallam) really know how to read and write?
In this video clip Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi shares his reflections on this controversial issue and the evidences surrounding it from both camps. ~ [YQ Admin]
