Queen James Bible and the Islamophobes

 

The "Queen James Bible". The evangelical Christian right are a puzzling bunch. I was reading one of their articles and the Christian guy was overplaying the "influence of Islam" in the UK. One of his examples was Debenhams selling Muslim clothes or whatever (guess he's never heard of niche economics). These folks are bleating on about Muslims because in reality it's easy. Everybody knows these evangelical girls and guys aren't taken seriously by the vast majority of the population so they focus on bullying Muslims. They don't seem to have the confidence to even talk to (never mind talk down to/bully/harass) anybody else in the wider population - especially the LGBT and secularist movement. I wonder if any of those hounding Muslims in the UK have ever raised their voice about the Queen James Bible. LGBTQ peeps must be laughing behind the scenes whilst evangelical "Christians" are talking about kicking Muslims out of Europe, yelling at them in parks, harassing them online and preaching outside their mosques. Truly embarrassing. But hey, they have some Muslims to bash to make themselves feel important and powerful.


The Queen James Bible (QJV), also called the “Gay Bible,” is an edit of the biblical text done in the name of preventing “homophobic interpretations.” To accomplish this goal, the publishers printed a Bible in which all negative references to homosexuality have been removed. The Queen James Bible was published in 2012 and is based on the 1769 edition of the King James Bible.

The publishers of the Queen James Bible chose the name “Queen James” as an obvious take-off on the “King James” Version, as the Authorized Version of 1611 is commonly called. The publishers of the Gay Bible also claim that King James was bisexual, so their choice of title capitalizes on the slang meaning of the term queen.

The editors of the Queen James Bible, who chose to be anonymous, claim that there was no reference to homosexuality in any Bible translation prior to the 1946 Revised Standard Version. Then, they assert, “anti-LGBT Bible interpretations” arose, based on a faulty translation in the RSV of eight verses.

The unidentified “scholars”—their scholastic credentials are unknown—who produced the Queen James Bible suggest that all Bible translations of these eight verses are wrong and that they are the only ones who have got it right. Below are the eight verses. [GotQuestions]

A Muslim's Thoughts on Solas CPC's + Other Christian Campagins Against Same Sex Marriage in the UK

The Pro-gay marriage movement is one of the biggest movements within what Christian theologians would call the "body of Christ" in the West. Ecumenism is up there too. In reality both ecumenism and the pro-gay marriage movement stem from liberal Christianity.

The sheer size of the Christian pro-gay marriage movement would mean Christians like Alisdair (Ally) Smith and David Robertson of Solas CPC believe the majority of the members of the "body of Christ" are not indwelt by the Holy Spirit nowadays as opposed to 30 years ago:

In others words, while clear majorities disapproved in 1983 (highest at 74.8 per cent for Catholics and 79.7 per cent for other Christians), in 2010 opposition had fallen to lower than 50 per cent in each group – lowest at 37.4 per cent for Anglicans and 20.4 per cent for those with no religion. Note that in all our tables given below, survey weights have been applied. [Dr Ben Celements, Leicester University]

One would expect this trend to continue, perhaps to the extent of virtually all Christians in the UK being pro-gay marriage or at the very least accepting of it in the coming years. Again, putting forth further questions on the beliefs the Christian community have concerning the Holy Spirt. As GotQuestions describes these beliefs:

Jesus gave the Spirit as a “compensation” for His absence, to perform the functions toward us which He would have done if He had remained personally with us....The Spirit’s presence within us enables us to understand and interpret God’s Word. Jesus told His disciples that “when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).

What are David Robertson's Solas CPC and the other minority of Christian activists going to say here? Will they say, the majority of Christians in the UK aren't guided by the Holy Spirt and thus don't interpret the Scripture in a way that is acceptable?

And what of the flip side, the Christian pro-gay marriage side? The majority side may well just point at their numbers and use that to support the claim the Holy Spirit is guiding them to do what Christ would do today!

In fact, the Christian pro-gay marriage side may even say there have been historical precedents in the past concerning early Christians and their deliberations towards the Trinity belief and the NT canon.

Let's focus on the NT canon for a few moments. It was basically decided by a majority rule, early on there was disagreement as to which books to consider "inspired". Christian theology would teach the decisions on the inclusion/exclusion of any book was guided by the Holy Spirit. Yet in reality, it appears, it was just majority rule which won out in the end.

it is not quite accurate to say that there has never been any doubt in the Church of any of our New Testament books. A few of the shorter Epistles (e.g. 2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, James, Jude) and the Revelation were much longer in being accepted in some parts than in others; while elsewhere books which we do not now include in the New Testament were received as canonical. Thus the Codex Sinaiticus included the 'Epistle of Barnabas' and the Shepherd of Hermas, a Roman work of about AD 110 or earlier, while the Codex Alexandrinus included the writings known as the First and Second Epistles of Clement; and the inclusion of these works alongside the biblical writings probably indicates that they were accorded some degree of canonical status. The only books about which there was any substantial doubt after the middle of the second century were some of those which come at the end of our New Testament. Origen (185-254) mentions the four Gospels, the Acts, the thirteen Paulines, 1 Peter, 1 John and Revelation as acknowledged by all; he says that Hebrews, 2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, James and Jude, with the 'Epistle of Barnabas,' the Shepherd of Hermas, the Didache, and the 'Gospel according to the Hebrews,' were disputed by some. Eusebius (c. 265-340) mentions as generally acknowledged all the books of our New Testament except James, Jude, 2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, which were disputed by some, but recognised by the majority. Athanasius in 367 lays down the twenty-seven books of our New Testament as alone canonical; shortly afterwards Jerome and Augustine followed his example in the West. The process farther east took a little longer; it was not until c. 508 that 2 Peter, 2 and 3 John, Jude and Revelation were included in a version of the Syriac Bible in addition to the other twenty two books. Now, think about the parallels here between the gradual decision via majority-rule on what to call canon and the pro-gay marriage movement.

David Robertson and his colleagues at Solas CPC may state the glaring difference; homosexual unions have been outlawed Biblically (ref Leviticus 18:22, 1 Cor 6:9-11 and Romans 1:26-28)

There are two issues here for Solas CPC and other anti-gay marriage Christian activists:

1. The Bible is not a closed text. There has been relatively recent precedent of whole chunks of the NT being relegated to possible forgery status as per the findings of Dr Von Tischendorf in the 19th century. They are finding new manuscripts regularly. There is nothing to stop another find relegating other parts of the NT to possible forgery (scribal addition) status. What if that happens in 50 years time regarding 1 Cor 6:9-11 and Romans 1:26-28? All it would take would be a discovery of an early MSS of said texts omitting such verses or rendering different wording in those verses to the extent of changing the apparent meaning of the text.

It's clear Christians cannot have confidence in their NT texts.

2. The problem of interpretation. The pro-gay camp have their own interpretations of the relevant Bible texts. Rev. Dr. Mark Achtemeier, who has served the Presbyterian Church (USA) since 1984 as a minister, theology professor, and writer states there's an overwhelmingly positive case for gay marriage in the Bible:

Fortunately, the church across the centuries has developed guidelines for interpreting Scripture that help keep our use of particular passages in touch with the true portrait of God’s love in Christ. When we apply these guidelines, the Bible’s teaching about gay people and their relationships appears in a whole new light. In my book I show how the application of these time-tested principles of biblical interpretation produces an overwhelmingly positive biblical case in favor of gay marriage. I came to realize how my former reliance on fragmentary, out-of-context quotes from Scripture had led me to lose touch with the “big picture” of God’s love that lies at the heart of the Bible’s witness.

If you combine this with the fact the pro-gay marriage camp is the bigger camp now, in addition it is still growing, and couple it with the belief that Christians believe they are guided by the Holy Spirit in Scripture then there is a huge hurdle here for Solas CPC. Is this not a big problem as this camp will make a more forceful appeal to this belief concerning the Holy Spirit because they have the numbers in the West.

The problem here is the Christian belief about the Holy Spirit and the way history played it self out previously with regards to the Trinity belief and the NT canon being formulated based on majority rule.


Consistency: Western incompatibility - Alisdair Smith's colleagues' inconsistent argumentation.

Alisdair Smith's colleagues in the mission fields (certainly Jonathan McLatchie's colleagues) argue on the lines of Islam not being compatible with Western values when constructing polemics against Islam yet if we are consistent Alisdair Smith, SOLAS and the rest of the anti-gay marriage Christian camp are promoting a Christianity which is incompatible with Western values.

Again, questions concerning the Christian belief of the Holy Spirit arise as surely the Holy Spirit wouldn't guide towards inconsistency..

Christian hypocrisy

This is a subtle one for the thinking Christian

Christianity is not monolithic. The Christian pro-gay marriage movement has wide spread and rapidly growing support (as seen above) yet colleagues of SOLAS' Alisdair in the Christian polemics business such as Nabeel Qureshi, David Wood and Jay Smith would say ISIS is true Islam despite being miniscule and having no scholarly Islamic body supporting ISIS (in fact all Muslim scholarship has denounced ISIS) yet at the same time this Christian camp claims the pro same sex marriage movement is not true Christianity despite it having much more support from recognised Christian bodies, authorities and a vast and ever-growing supporter base amongst Christian laity.

Let's discuss another example of what appears to be hypocrisy from the conservative Christian camp.

There are heterosexual dating prohibitions (Matt 5:28, 1 Cor 6) yet the campaigns against this are nowhere to be seen. Can SOLAS or any other Christian anti-gay marriage campaign group show me a track record of vociferous campaigning against this throughout the years?

In fact, one would expect there to be overwhelmingly more anti-heterosexual dating/sex-before-marriage activity than homosexual marriage as homosexual marriage is a relatively new phenomena.

Selective focus like this not only invites accusations of hypocrisy but it again leads to questions about the Christian belief in the Holy Spirit. If this camp seriously believes they are being guided by the Holy Spirit then why a selective focus? Why hasn't the Holy Spirit not guided them to campaign more strongly against the more widespread sin - heterosexual dating and unmarried heterosexual sex?

Conclusion

British Muslims should not solely rely on Christians in this endeavour of campaigning against gay-marriage. Muslims must go out and take a lead role in this effort. Sure, working alongside straggling Christians like SOLAS is encouraged but do not sit back and think this Christian minority are knights in shining armour. They're not. They could capitulate tomorrow just like Christians did by agreeing to majority rule on the Trinity belief and NT canon. Not to mention them pretty much giving up their efforts against heterosexual pre-marital sex (once again, I'd imagine this was due to the pressure of numbers against them).

As for the Christian soldiers who are currently admirably standing against the tide of the zeitgeist why not do it under the umbrella of Islam? Friends, look into Islam with an open heart.

Jonathan Mclatchie: Gay Marriage is "Madness" but Terrorism is..

Jonathan McLatchie calls gay marriage "madness" yet when it comes to terrorist attacks such as the Orlando shootings, it's not called madness. It's called Islam - this is the message we get based on the videos of one of his colleagues, David Wood*, which he shares on his FaceBook page. All this despite there being more support from Christian authorities for gay marriage than support from Muslim authorities for terrorism!

You have the modern phenomena of indiscriminate killings of civilians which all Muslim scholastic bodies have condemned to be against the spirit of Islam. Dr Timothy Winter of Cambridge University states "terrorism is the arbitrary targeting of the innocent in order to place pressure on governments, which is something which doesn't have origins in Islamic culture or ethics and comes out of the French revolution and certain 19th century anarchist movements that used terrorism. As a doctrine in the Muslim world it's very recent and it's an expression of Westernisation. Terrorism, 9/11 for instance, according to classical Islamic Law is classified as hiraba which carried the death penalty"

An excellent quote from Muhammad Asad's book rebuking McLatchie's fellow evangelical Christians (Jeremiah Johnston and Craig Evans) who parse terrorist attacks in a similar manner to McLatchie and his friend David Wood:

"Simply put, every Muslim scholar - whether Sunni, Shia, Salafi, Deobandi - has condemned and spoken out against Daesh. Their arguments against Daesh and its acts are derived from traditional Islamic religious texts and  based firmly in Islamic jurisprudence".

The evangelical Christian inconsistency

Contrast that with the equally modern phenomena of gay marriage. Although there is a growing number of churches, Christian leaders and lay Christians accepting gay marriage as being within the spirit of Christianity, Jonathan would dismiss gay marriage as "madness".

More Christians who are involved in the CoE believe gay marriage is right rather than wrong. A recent survey by YouGov suggested 45% of Church of England followers felt same-sex marriage was right, against 37% who believed it wrong [stats sourced from Huffington Post]. According to the Huff Post, the Episcopal Church, the United Church of Christ and now the Presbytarian Church (USA) sanctify the marriage of two men or two women.

All this in the eyes of Jonathan McLatchie is "madness". Yet if he would just step back for a few moments he would observe the huge inconsistency he and his evangelical colleagues operate on. There's actually much more support for gay marriage from Christian authorities, churches and lay Christians alike than there is for terrorist acts such as Orlando.

If McLatchie was consistent he would say, that gay marriage is CHRISTIAN not "madness". I'd imagine for him, Christian proponents of gay marriage decontextualize and rely on fragmentary readings of the Bible. BUT he and his colleagues are not even cognisant to this being the case for Muslim terrorists despite:

In 2008, a classified briefing note on radicalisation, prepared by MI5’s behavioural science unit, was leaked to the Guardian. It revealed that, “far from being religious zealots, a large number of those involved in terrorism do not practise their faith regularly. Many lack religious literacy and could . . . be regarded as religious novices.” The analysts concluded that “a well-established religious identity actually protects against violent radicalisation”, the newspaper said. [Mehdi Hasan]

I recently heard rabbi Tovia Singer, a man who has no horse in this race, say terrorists abuse texts from the Quran and Hadith. Ask yourself why a Jewish rabbi can be more scholarly, consistent and fair than Jonathan McLatchie and his evangelical Christian colleagues - a crowd who claim to be guided by the Holy Spirit?

There's clearly an agenda at play here. Perhaps Jonathan McLatchie will enlighten us on this glaringly obvious inconsistency and why it is operated on. For now, smart and fair-minded people are not impressed.

* David Wood, in pretty much the immediate aftermath of the Orlando shootings made a video effort claiming Omar Mateen's actions were in line with Islamic texts. Maeten's former gay lover has now come out and said he thinks it was nothing to do with religion but a revenge attack concerning a sexual liaison with a man/men who did not inform him of  a HIV positive status - see the Independent. David Wood has a history of hurdling over facts and fair-minded analysis.

This is an ex Muslim who is inconsistently and ignorantly attacking Muslims for the Orlando massacre.

Introverted Smiles begins by rattling off 3 or 4 attacks by Muslim in the West yet for some reason ignores all the other attacks. What are these other attacks and are Muslims the perpetrators of these other attacks? As Russell Brad points out, the majority of terrorist attacks in the West are carried out by non-Muslims. Only 2% are carried out by Muslims.

Is it possible this man's antagonism towards Muslims is fuelled in part by irresponsible and disproportionate media coverage? It seems so, otherwise he would not be so angry with Muslims, he'd be angry with all groups!

It seems a media bias has led him to overlook the irony in rallying "white people" against Muslims. WHITE men are disproportionately responsible for most of the shootings! David Sirota points this fact out in the video.

So what's the problem here? Obviously there's an issue with the media. Is there also an issue of low self-esteem where this man (Introverted Smiles) feels he should/can pick on the Muslims as
Muslims are deemed as an acceptable target for bigotry and ire when a Muslim carries out a
shooting but, he as an obviously ethnic minority male, feels the white American male is a demographic which warrants special and superior treatment?

And what of this man's family, are they Muslims? If so, if he rallying a bunch of white Americans against them too?

He claims some Arab Muslims were happy about the killing of the people at the gay club in Orlando

OK, I haven't seen Muslims celebrating the Orlando massacre but there are ignorant and immature
people in the Muslim community too - as with all groups. However, once again, this ex-Muslim inconsistently zones in on silly Muslims for doing exactly what others are doing, including Jews,
American military personnel and Christian leaders. The video shows Christian pastors, orthodox Jews and American marines were doing the same thing he berates some Muslims on social media for!

Of course, it's easier to zone in on Muslims and African Americans. If one is suffering from self-hatred and/or low self-esteem the demographics which are socially and politically stronger are especially more difficult to criticise.

He tries to link the criminality by Omar Mateen in Orlando with Sharia

This is anti-intellectual. Sadly, this is all too common amongst Islamophobes where they try to link any action a Muslim does with Sharia. The fact is clear, this act would not be considered an act of Sharia by any Muslim scholar.

Introverted Smiles was appealing to Sharia which is irrelevant to America and the massacre itself in an attempt to try and frame Islam for this massacre.

1. Sharia law is not aplicable in non Muslim lands
2. The most popular jurisprudence school does not call for execution
of convicted homosexuals.
3. Under Sharia, 4 witnesses to the ACT are required for somebody to
be convicted of homosexual sex
4. Vigilanties are not allowed to take matters into their own hands

Here are some further points from Dr Jonathan AC Brown:

It is not same-sex attraction or desires that the Shariah prohibits. It is acting on them.

Yes, the main position in the Hanafi school of law for many centuries was that someone convicted of sodomy (which in all the schools required four witnesses to the act of penetration) was not executed but only given a milder punishment or perhaps only disciplined by a judge.

The ex Muslim critic also intimated Muslims do not respect the law of America. This paragraph from Dr Brown may also be of use:

According to the Shariah, Muslims living in the West (or other non-Muslim states) are essentially visitors from the perspective of the sacred law. The standard definition amongst Muslim scholars for the Abode of Islam (Dar al-Islam) was those lands where the Shariah reigns.[7] Muslims outside that space reside in lands and countries as guests of whatever legal or religious system reigns there. Muslim Refutes Pastor Steven Anderson's Anti-Gay and Anti-Muslim Propaganda

Steven Anderson, a pastor in Arizona, has put forward some anti-Muslim and anti-gay propaganda in the wake of the Orlando massacre.

His first bout of propaganda was to equate homosexual people with paedophiles. The research does not support his assertions. See these citations from Dr Gregroy Herek's paper (there are more citations in the video refutation of Steven Anderson):

As an expert panel of researchers convened by the National Academy of Sciences noted in a 1993 report: "The distinction between homosexual and heterosexual child molesters relies on the premise that male molesters of male victims are homosexual in orientation. Most molesters of boys do not report sexual interest in adult men, however" (National Research Council, 1993, p. 143, citation omitted).

The empirical research does not show that gay or bisexual men are any more likely than heterosexual men to molest children. This is not to argue that homosexual and bisexual men never molest children. But there is no scientific basis for asserting that they are more likely than heterosexual men to do so. And, as explained above, many child molesters cannot be characterized as having an adult sexual orientation at all; they are fixated on children.

Steven Anderson also attacked Muslims and Islam. He sad Islam was a wicked religion. However, just to show how shallow and nconsistent his claim is we can look at which religion has the better teachings on alcohol; Christianity or Islam. Islam forbids alcohol while Christianity allows it. Alcohol is linked to certain types of cancer even in moderation as well as other societal and health problems. Clearly Islam has the better teachings. Pastor Steven Anderson is confronted with a dilemma here, if Islam is wicked how did it come with better teachings than the religion you believe to be the true and holiest religion?

In the video we have a well known Islamophobe who admits Islam leads to many Muslims living upright and fine lives. How can a "wicked faith" lead to that?

Some Gay Muslims Can Become Heterosexual

I was having a discussion about homosexuality on Face Book today and did some digging around regarding the phenomena of homosexual people changing to heterosexuals. This will be of interest for gay Muslims who want to become heterosexual, marry and have children. There's a study out evidencing that some gay people can change and become straight.

A controversial new study says yes — if they really want to. Critics, though, say the study's subjects may be deluding themselves and that the subject group was scientifically invalid because many of them were referred by anti-gay religious groups.

Dr. Robert Spitzer, a psychiatry professor at Columbia University, said he began his study as a skeptic — believing, as major mental health organizations do, that sexual orientation cannot be changed, and attempts to do so can even cause harm.
 

But Spitzer's study, which has not yet been published or reviewed, seems to indicate otherwise. Spitzer says he spoke to 143 men and 57 women who say they changed their orientation from gay to straight, and concluded that 66 percent of the men and 44 percent of women reached what he called good heterosexual functioning — a sustained, loving heterosexual relationship within the past year and getting enough emotional satisfaction to rate at least a seven on a 10-point scale.
 

He said those who changed their orientation had satisfying heterosexual sex at least monthly and never or rarely thought of someone of the same sex during intercourse.
 

He also found that 89 percent of men and 95 percent of women were bothered not at all or only slightly by unwanted homosexual feelings. However, only 11 percent of men and 37 percent of women reported a complete absence of homosexual indicators.

Why I Will Help Asif Quraishi: How the LGBT Community and TV Directors Misuse Asif Quraishi (Muslim Drag Queens)

OK, my friend messaged me about this Muslim drag queen program to be aired on Ch4. I already know about Asif Quraishi. I'm aware of his work. I've wrote about him previously.

As far as I know they don't do shows on Hindu drag queens, Sikh drag queens, Jewish drag queens or Christian drag queens? Why not? It's because Muslims are in the news nowadays. The media constantly beat us down. There's a demonization campaign against us as well as a campaign to try and get people to call for 'reforming' our religion and our religious outlook (in no way shape or form should we do this - this is our identity and the Western White Liberal world is not going to play a game of superiority over us and tell us what to believe or think!!)

Asif Quraishi (aka Asifa Lahore) is being used by Islamophobes and is also being used by people behind the scenes in TV to court controversy in order to grab a few extra views in an ever more competitive TV audience battle. Does Asif Quraishi know this? I don't know...but he should. Perhaps he should also know that the folk behind the TV show may also be using him as a 'look at this guy' type of thing, where they don't respect him but rather use him as something to look at and perhaps poke fun at such as some of the out-there individuals they used to choose for their Big Brother program. Let's face it, Channel 4 have a history of using people in this way. Some of whom may have had mental problems.

However, perhaps Asif Quraishi knows all this. Perhaps for him it's a bit of a trade-off. He gets used but he also uses the media too. For him he courts attention which means his popularity on the drag queen and gay scene increase which in turns means more revenue (CASH) for him.

But life is not about using people for cash and purposes of popularity. There's more to life than this. Asif Quraishi knows this. Deep down Asif Quraishi is also using this as a cry for help. A cry for Muslims to sit him down and talk to him. Befriend him and rescue him from his current plight of loneliness and life as a pawn for people who want to rinse him for their own ends - be they gay club owners, TV directors, Islamophobes, LGBT rights activists etc. People are using our Asif Quraishi.

He should be incorporated into the Muslim community fully. Away from the cameras and the prying eyes. He should be rescued. He needs Muslim heroes at this time. He needs Muslim friends. Let's befriend him and let's take him to the mosque regularly and get him attending Islamic circles, classes and lectures. Let's help him. This is our duty. Either we try to help him or just leave him to the wolves who are devouring him right now by misusing him for their own selfish purposes.

Mercy and understanding are better than recrimination. I have seen this in my various opportunities to work with Muslims with this orientation [homosexuality] who have come to me. Many of our khatibs are adopting a language of hate, but these people will not respond well to this. The inclination is not a sin, since an intention that is not acted upon is not sinful. In fact such a person who struggles with his inclination will be rewarded. Perhaps he will reach Paradise before you and me.

But the acting-out of the desire is a sin: this is known by ijma and to deny it is fisq. In this we agree with the great majority of classical orthodox believers in other religions. We should not be intimidated and bullied into failing to state this ruling.
 

Ours is an age which increasingly finds it hard to understand a message of dignity, restraint, and sacrifice. Instead, the age favours hedonism. Muslims in the West must witness to the truth that hedonism does not bring happiness; happiness, which is every human’s birthright, comes from surrendering to the commands of Heaven.

No one - neither secular folks nor religious folks - claims that the legal rulings of any country represent correct ethical values and true morality. The two are separate and distinct.

How many legal verdicts of a country have been considered unethical or immoral at a later date? At one time in America, slavery was legal; discrimination against other skin colors was legal; mass incarcerations against people of a different ethnicity was legal, and the list goes on and on. Even today, there are rulings that are technically legal yet opposed by large segments of the population (for example, abortion). The fact that a court rules something to be legal does not make it ethically valid for a particular faith tradition.

From the perspective of mainstream, normative Islamic law, any type of sexual union outside of marriage is unethical and immoral. This includes pre-marital, extra-marital and same-sex unions. The fact that none of these types of sexual encounters is deemed illegal in a country does not matter to us in terms of religious law: we believe that any Muslim who commits such acts has transgressed Islamic norms and should repent. Committing such an act does not disqualify one from being a Muslim, and his or her affair is with their Lord.

Just as Muslims understand that drinking alcohol is legal in America (and most countries in the world), yet unethical in Islam, so too should they understand that any sexual union outside of the bounds of marriage, as defined by the Shariah, is also unethical, even if legal in some countries. If some people drink alcohol in this land, that is their business, and we are not obliged to stop them, but we will believe that drinking alcohol is harmful to the body and soul, and we will preach this. The same applies for sexual matters as well: there are limits laid down by Islamic law, and we will continue to maintain those limits in our beliefs, and try to maintain them in our personal lives.

American Muslims have easily navigated through the potential conflict between the law of the land and of Islamic law when it comes to issues of alcohol, drugs, and pre- and extra-marital sex. Now, in light of the US Supreme Court's recent legalization of same-sex unions, they just need to add this latest issue to that list.

Lastly, just as all of us Western Muslims have non-Muslim friends (at college, or work, or our neighbors) who drink and 'party', yet we get along fine with them in civil society and benefit from their companionship in our lives, it shouldn't at all be a stretch to understand that people of alternative sexual orientations as well can be our colleagues and neighbors and classmates, and there is no need at all to be preach hatred against them or discriminate in any fashion or form. In fact, our religion commands us to be ideal role models for all people of all backgrounds. لكم دينكم ولي دين #

Muslim Message to Michael Sam of ST Louis Rams

I don't know what religion Michael Sam follows but we know the best religion for somebody with homosexual feelings wanting to avoid falling into temptation is Islam. I'd imagine there will be number of folk in America who will abuse Michael Sam but as Muslims we have to pass the message of Islam on recognising people who are attracted to the same sex are indeed humans with souls, thus it's our responsibility to watch out for them. If the Muslim are not going to do this, then who is?

I'd like to invite Michael Sam, reportedly the first openly gay to play in the NFL, to Islam (if he's not Muslim already). Following Islam will actually help his spiritual and mental well being as well as being an excellent framework for his physical well being.

Michael Sam has become the first openly gay player drafted by a pro American football team after he was picked by the St Louis Rams in the seventh round of the NFL draft.

Sam played for the University of Missouri Tigers, and came out as gay in media interviews earlier this year. His team and coaches knew his secret and kept it for his final college season.

Stone Cold Steve Austin Wrong About Gay Marriage

Stone Cold Steve Austin, recently on his podcast, came out blasting Christians for opposing same-sex marriage. I was shocked to hear Steve Austin being so liberal - he even claimed to be 'for same sex marriage'. Steve Austin claims  that any couple who wants to marry should be allowed to marry.

I wonder if Austin had such liberal views back in his wrestling days or whether he is simply making such noises because he sees the pro-gay marriage bandwagon is the popular one.

Same sex marriage is wrong. Homosexual sexual acts are forbidden by both Christianity and Islam.

Gay Indian Muslim Asylum in Australia

This is another one of these sad stories. An Indian Muslim family has lost their son because of his attraction to men - he is gay. Well actually, I don't believe they have lost him solely due to his homosexuality and his boyfriend.

I think their reported reaction of trying to force the gay Indian Muslim man into a marriage, threatening and abusing him was more than part of it.

Muslim families need training in dealing with situations such as gay sons and gay daughters. Trying to force them into marriage is not Islamic and can lead to further problems. Beating the gay son/daughter up is not going to achieve anything in terms of keeping your child. Islam is the best religion for gay men and women, thus the family should always express this to their child.

Using wisdom and speaking to the gay daughter/son is what the family should try to do. If the parents/siblings are incapable of doing this, then get somebody of wisdom in from the local Muslim community to TALK and LISTEN to them. Try to contact people like Kamal El Mekki, Suhaib Webb, Yasir Qadhi and Nouman Ali Khan to advise you further.

On a side note, Christian Islamophobes may well be using this incident to bash Muslims but rather than misusing the unwise actions of an angry Muslim family in India they would be advised to look into their teachings about homosexual acts in the Bible.

CanIndia: A gay Indian student, who fled his country to escape his oppressive family and an arranged marriage, has been granted refugee status in Australia.    
                                                    
The 25-year-old commerce graduate, who lives with his ­boyfriend in New South Wales (NSW), was granted asylum by Australia’s Refugee Review Tribunal, The Australian reported Wednesday.
He arrived on a student visa in March 2009 to study for a diploma in business management but withdrew from the course after six months.

When the man last ­returned to his home city of ­Hyderabad in India in 2011, he claimed that his father locked him in a bedroom and pressured him to enter into an arranged marriage

He alleged that his male cousins also assaulted him, twisting his nose and holding a knife against his throat. The student claimed that he was also threatened by a local Islamic cleric. The student escaped his family home with the help of a female friend. He hid in her house until he got a return ticket to reach Australia, the report said. Australia’s immigration department in July 2012 accepted that the asylum-seeker was homosexual but rejected the claim that the mistreatment amounted to persecution.

History of same-sex marriage

Same-sex marriage has been documented in many societies that were not subject to Christian influence. In North American, among the Native American societies, it has taken the form of two-spirit  type relationships, in which some members of the tribe elect to take on female gender with all its responsibilities. They are prized as wives by the other men in the tribe, who enter into formal marriages with these two-spirit  men.

In China, especially in the southern province of Fujian where male love was especially cultivated, men would marry youths in elaborate ceremonies. The marriages would last a number of years, at the end of which the elder partner would help the younger find a (female) wife and settle down to raise a family.

 

In Africa, among the Azande of the Congo, men would marry youths for whom they had to pay a bride-price to the father. These marriages likewise were understood to be of a temporary nature.

Finally, in Europe during Hellenic times, the relationships between Greek men and youths who had come of age were analogous to marriage in several aspects. The age of the youth was similar to the age at which women married (the mid-teens), and the relationship could only be undertaken with the consent of the father. This consent, just as in the case of a daughter's marriage, was contingent on the suitor's social standing. The relationship, just like a marriage, consisted of very specific social and religious responsibilities, and also had an erotic component.

Bible: Death Penalty for Homosexual Sex

The rise of gay churches and clergy men (and women) is startling to those who have an orthodox grounding in the Bible. Sadly, Christian ethics are blighted by the secular manifestations which “have become increasingly in terms of purely individual self-fulfilment and self-expression.” [1]

Basil Mitchell expresses the potential dangers in the reliance on “the personal” and does advance the notion; this criterion (“the personal”) could be used to justify same-sex unions and relations outside marriage. [1]

Let’s be frank, this is exactly what we are seeing in the West – more and more Christian leaders are essentially following the secular band-wagon and presenting Christianity as secularism with an added belief in Jesus.

Gay Christians, prepare for the shock!

We would like to ask the churches who are so accepting of gay and lesbian clergy and congregations to have a closer look at the Old Testament and the writings of Paul of Tarsus (aka Apostle Paul). It will surprise you and Bernadette J Brooten’s interpretation will send shock waves down your very being.

Bible: death penalty for gays

I find it peculiar that it’s a Muslim who has to point this out – the Bible is vehemently opposed to same sex relationships.

“Leviticus 10.13 prohibits sexual relations between men, defines them as an “abomination” and places them under the DEATH PENALTY (see also Lev.18.22)” [2]

Liberal Christians, I will tell you that it gets more shocking as, according to Brooten, this death penalty includes rape victims – including children.

Brooten writes, “Ethical considerations such as consent, coercion or the power imbalance inherent in adult-child relations are not legally relevant in these passages (nor in the surrounding Levitical Laws on adultery, incest and bestiality). Thus, regardless of the sexual relationships of the participants (a man and his consenting male partner, an adult male whom he had raped, or a child victim), all are equally culpable, since all are equally defiled (see Philo, De spec.leg.3.7.37-42).” [2]

According to Brooten, Paul (in the New Testament) “does not employ the ethical categories of consent or age for distinguishing between sanctioned and condemned sexual relations” [2]

I acknowledge this is Brooten’s interpretation – an interpretation which could well be wrong.

Nevertheless, our liberal Christian friends will point out these laws are from the Old Testament and that they follow the New Testament. They may well call the OT laws a “curse” – Jesus’ following of this “curse” coupled with those Christians who maintain Jews must still abide by OT laws militates against this outright dismissal of the OT.

However, Paul (in the NT) AGREES with the OT laws concerning homosexuals.

New Testament: Gays “DESERVE TO DIE”

“Paul Describes male-male relations as “impurity” and asserts such men “deserve to die” (Rom. 1.24-32). [2]

This information may be faith-shattering to gay Christians but it must be said regardless of the ramifications. Paul offers no acceptance for lesbian Christians either…

Paul is against lesbianism too!

“Paul extends the prohibition to include sexual relations between women (Rom. 1.26) as do other postbiblical writings.” [2]

Sharia or Biblical law?

Christian Islamophobes are constantly prattling on against Sharia but are absolutely oblivious to the hypocritical depths they sink to whilst doing so. A law based on the dictates of God is never going to be morally unacceptable as true morals are taught via divine revelation. The real problem crops up when folk who are motivated by their desires decide to change a religion for purposes of “self-fulfilment” – this is what we are seeing within Christian circles as we speak.

Earlier today, I had a conversation with a Catholic and told him of the Muslim view of the Bible having been altered by men – I told him this belief is easily proven too – he agreed!

It is the job of the truth seeker to seek out the true religion. Christianity makes more sense when one utilizes the lens of Islam to view it.

Best Religion for Homosexuals and Bisexuals? Islam or Christianity?

I recently entered a discussion in which we touched on the topic of whether Islam or Christianity was better for a gay person who wants to remain chaste (i.e. not have same-sex sexual relations).

For me it's clear that Islam is the better religion for the gay man, gay woman (lesbian) and for the bisexual man/woman who wants to remain chaste.

Firstly before moving on to some practical and spiritual considerations that help the homosexual and bisexual to remain chaste we must mention that Islam teaches pure monotheism - worship God alone. This is the message of all the Prophets (p). In Trinitarian Christianity they do not teach pure monotheism, the teaching in Trinitarian Christianity is a 3 in 1 teaching where they also attribute divinity to Prophet Jesus (p).

So in beliefs Islam is the religion for all of those who want to adhere to the basic teaching of all Prophets (p).

When it comes to practicalities to help the homosexual/bisexual person to avoid same-sex sexual relations, Islam has more to offer than Christianity:

1. Islam obligates the adherent to break from the world and worship God at least FIVE times in the 24 hour day at different intervals - this obviously leaves the Muslim more spiritually charged to battle any desires he/she may have. Another point to be taken from this obligation is that it leaves the person with less time for sin. In Christianity these fine teachings are absent.

2. In Islam, for a whole month every year, Muslims fast. Fasting would help the person of same sex attraction to recharge spiritually. This would obviously help anybody wanting to remain chaste - whether the person is homosexual or heterosexual. This fasting is not present in Christianity.

3. Islam does not allow the consumption of alcohol at all. We know that alcohol leads to a lot of sexual sins as it lowers the inhibitions. This problem is killed off straight away in Islam by complete prohibition of alcohol. In Christianity this is not the case, the teaching in Christianity is to not get drunk - this is obviously a very difficult thing to do due to the nature of the substance, one glass of wine leads to another and it ultimately leads to drunkenness.

4. In Islam, looking at the nudity of a person of the same gender is not allowed, thus helping to remove any temptations in locker rooms/changing rooms:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) expressly forbade one man to look at the ‘awrah of another, or one woman to look at the ‘awrah of another. It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No man should look at the ‘awrah of another man, and no woman should look at the ‘awrah of another woman.”      http://islamqa.info/en/66824

I am not aware of a similar teaching in Christianity.

5. In the Mosques you are unlikely to find people who support gay marriage or who are openly gay/lesbian/bisexual whilst these people are becoming more and more common in churches thus the danger, for the homosexual/bisexual who wants to remain chaste, of getting in with a crowd which could lead them to same-sex sexual relations is greater in the churches rather than the mosques.

6. Muslim art is dominated by beautiful calligraphy and fine patterns while Christian art is focussed on life drawings. Many of these life drawings are indeed of naked semi-naked figures. Of course this does not help the person with same-sex attraction at all.

7. Cultures in Muslim communities are modest yet cultures in Christian communities are not as modest.

8. Muslims have the least sex outside of marriage according to statistics. Clearly something is working for Muslims:

Conclusion

If you are a bisexual, homosexual (gay/lesbian) who wants to remain chaste then Islam is for you. As a matter of fact, Islam is for everybody, the doors of repentance and mercy are open:

For Gay Men: What's Better Islam or Unitarian Universalism?

Via email, I was recently challenged with the question of, what is better for a man with homosexual desires; Islam or Unitarian Universalism?

 

Obviously Islam is better for gay men.

 

Think about it, in Unitarian Universalism (UU) there's no fixed teaching of self control and self deprivation. These teachings of self control where one shuns the destroyers of spirituality (such as excessive-eating, drugs, fornication, adultery, gambling, alcohol etc.) all aid the spiritual development of a person. These teachings are within Islam and indeed are fixed yet in Unitarian Universalism these teachings are not present as fixed rules. This is a huge problem within Unitarian Universalism; the destroyers of spirituality are not forbidden. Thus we have one faith which comes with fixed spiritual practices coupled with defined parimeters which keep one away from the destroyers of spirituality whilst the other faith (Unitarian Universalism) comes with no fixed spiritual practices and no defined parimeters to keep one away from the destroyers of spirituality. Clearly Islam is more appealing for the one who wants spiritual nourishment.

Because of the lack of these teachings, in Unitarian Universalism, one of the pitfalls for a homosexual is that they end up acting upon their lusts. Not only that, the severe danger of them becoming promiscuous homosexuals is noticeable - homosexuals are generally more prone to promiscuous behaviour than  heterosexuals. Therefore, in Unitarian Universalism not only is the gay man's spirituality impacted on negatively but the gay man's mental and physical health could well be in jeopardy.

Mental health of the gay man

Unitarian Universalism opens the door for promiscuity for both heterosexuals and homosexuals. The emotional pain it causes people is one thing but psychologists are zoning on other mental health issues arising from promiscuity

"Promiscuity is one example of a class of high-risk behaviors,” says Deirdre Lee Fitzgerald, PhD, assistant professor of psychology at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic. “It is comparable to, and may coincide with, behaviors such as heavy drinking, gambling, and other thrill-seeking behaviors like driving too fast."

 
Why do people have many sexual partners? It's exciting, Fitzgerald says, or, among their peers, it’s a kind of activity that brings them status. Another reason: It helps “them avoid dealing with other challenging emotional issues.”

Physical health of the gay man

What do I mean by Unitarian Universalism putting gay men into physical harm? Well, without those teachings of avoidance and self-control then not only is the gay man given a 'licence' to act upon his desires but he's left unchecked too thus meaning homosexual promiscuity.

 

Unitarian Universalism, as we have discussed, opens the door for sexual promiscuity. Many of us are aware of the problems in the Western world of sexually transmitted disease due to an acceptance of promiscuity. UU does nothing to protect the gay man from sexually transmitted diseases - despite the incidence of HIV estimated to be 50 times greater than the incidence of HIV within the heterosexual population:

 

According to Dr. Lansky, then, based on the 4 percent figure, the CDC estimates that in 2007 there were 692.2 new HIV cases per 100,000 homosexual men - or fifty times more cases than the rest of the population.

Is Unitarian Universalism attempting to protect the gay man from this tragedy? I don't see it. In Islam I do see the rules which keep people from such an tragedy.

 
Spirituality in Islam
 
In Islam Muslims have to pray 5 times a day at set periods during the 24 hour day. You drop everything and remove yourself from the material world and stand before God. The Buddhists talk about distancing yourself from the dunya (world) - yet in Islam you can see it and practice - it actually happens in Islam in a practical fashion. Of course, you can pray more than 5 times and perform dhikr (remembrance of God) throughout your day as a Muslim. However, Universalism does not offer you anything set spiritual framework. There's no framework for praying - no nothing. It basically leaves it to the individual to do what he/she wants. We all know what happens in society when people are left to do what they want without any governance - anarchy!
 
We have already touched on the fact Islam eliminates the destroyers of spirituality whilst Universalism does not. Which one is better for one's spirituality? It's obviously Islam.
