Refuted Claim: 'The Sun Revolves around the Earth Because the Qur'an Says So'

The claim that the Quran teaches the Sun orbits the Earth has been pushed by Islamophobes recently due to a clip by Memri of a Saudi Arabian Cleric (Al Fawzan). It's actually a clip that is being misused. The sheikh did not say the Quran teaches the Sun revolves around the Earth.

Here is the refutation of that video clip. This video shows the Quran does NOT teach the Sun orbits the Earth. It also explains how the Saudi cleric may arrived at his opinion.



Dr Muhammad al Jibaly refutes this claim

Shaykh DR. Muhammad al-Jibaly, who has extensively studied from
Allamah al-Albani's (r) works and has a pHD in Physics said the following on the Al-Kitaab As-Sunnah Yahoo Group regarding the topic of  Sun revolving around the Earth :‏

This Ayah :

And He it is Who has created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon, each in an orbit floating. (Al-Anbiya 21:33)

and the the aayah from soorat Yaaseen (36:38), indicate that the sun moves. Astronomical studies acknowedge this: the entire solar system drifts and rotates at high speed within our galaxy, and the entire galaxy moves with respect to other galaxies.

However, these aayaat do not have any indication whatsoever that the sun's movement is a revolution around the earth. Worthy `ulamaa who made such a wrong conclusion were misled by incorrect information presented to them, claiming that astronomy says that the sun is FIXED and the earth rotates around it.
