As for his use of the 'porn stats' concerning Pakistan, Tarek would do well to actually think critically rather than allowing his bias to manifest itself by accepting any negative news story about his fellow country men. Tarak, below is a more critical look at those pornography stats that you should reflect upon before using it unfairly as a whip to lash your own race. Perhaps Tarek Fatah will denounce America for producing porn?!
Tarak Fatah also speaks about the history of the name of Allah. Here's a little piece that he should read:

Before you point the finger at Pakistanis read the following:

If you check Wikipedia‘s world map of pornography (18+) laws you will realise NO Muslim country is in green. Green represents “pornography legal”. Pornography is not legal in Muslim countries.
Islamophobes have latched on to unreliable stats from Google Trends and Insights and derided Pakistan and Muslims. Before moving onto the “stats” related to Pakistan and Islam’s view on such material we should present a few home truths
Who produces and profiteers from pornographic material? Not the Muslims!
Islamophobes would do well to realise Muslims are not the big players in this sordid affair. Online Education’s pie chart of worldwide pornography revenues shows China (28%), Korea (27%), Japan (21%) and the US (14%) as the biggest players – in fact NO Muslim country is even mentioned by name.
The US spends over $13 billion on porn; companies like Time Warner, GM and Marriot make millions selling erotica according to Online Education.
Is Pakistan “number one for porn”?
I recently heard a Christian host from a missionary TV station claim such. This is obvious nonsense for two reasons: firstly pornography is ILLEGAL in Pakistan, secondly as a POOR country the people there are hardly going to be spending cash on copious pornography!
What about internet pornography in Pakistan?
Again, it comes down to LOGIC. According to Internet World Stats (2009) the number of internet users in Pakistan was estimated to be 18.5 million in total. Now, are you REALLY trying to tell me less than 20 million Pakistanis are topping the WORLD pornography statistics?!?!?
In fact, Pakistan is NOT even in the top 10 for keyword searches such as “porn” and “sex”! No Muslim country is in the top ten for the keyword “porn”. So what are the Islamophobes using to impugn Pakistan?
The Islamophobes cite SELECTIVE keywords to attack the Pakistani (Muslim)
They have used a “few of the least popular keywords when it comes to pornography” – these word searches would hardly yield the “most” pornography due to the nature of the keywords as well as restrictions imposed by Pakistan; the state “has often blocked access to pornographic sites and sites with anti-Islamic content” [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8691406.stm]
For a more thorough understanding of how Fox News has impugned Pakistan unfairly – please see:

The stats are NOT even reliable
The statistics the Islamophobes are using are unreliable. “Internet Service Provider Association of Pakistan declared the statistics regarding pornography in Pakistan as flawed” and Theresa Lim (Google communications) confirmed the stats are statistically unsound:
“May contain inaccuracies because the sample size is too small for the results to be statistically sound.” [http://propakistani.pk/2010/07/19/pakistan-top-in-porn-search-google-denies/]
The Islamophobes are using such “data” in their attempts to deride and dehumanize Muslims. Somebody needs to tell them their data is unsound and thus they should stop insulting Muslims with such outrage. In any case, pornography is deemed unislamic.
Is pornography allowed in Islam? No.
Watching pornography is forbidden, whether a person is married or not. The one who does that has to repent to Allah - Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid [http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/12301]
Clarification - What is “pornographic” by Muslim standards?
“Perhaps most Muslims think that pornography is only that uncensored filth that is accessible through XXX movies and certain Internet sites, but in fact, by Islamic standards, much of what is considered normal in advertising is actually pornographic. The purpose of these seductive images is to arouse the lower desires of people and to weaken their self-restrain and taint their thoughts. It bombards the Muslim, especially the youth, with indecent and suggestively seductive images. Unfortunately, most Muslims are so oblivious of the presence and influence of these Shaytanic (Satanic) images, that they regularly view them through various types of media”
“The Islamic solution to living in a society where pornographic images are so visible is to lower one's gaze”

Solving the pornography problem
In the UK we have been discussing increasing controls on pornography. In the West, pornography has become a real societal problem which is affecting us in the workplace, homes and schools. Muslim countries have the right idea in prohibiting such a satanic tool. Sharia (Islamic Law) would theoretically solve the problem of pornography by making it illegal.
