Hadith Teaching Muhammad Was Affected by Black Magic (bewitched) Proves his Prophethood by Yahya Snow
It is true that the Prophet Muhammad had a battle with Satan (black magic) and scored a complete victory over Satan and his forces thanks to God. This victory is similar to the victory God gave to Jesus over Satan in the temptation. Though both Jesus and Muhammad “suffered” ill-effects and were affected during their respective battles with Satan they both came through as victors and regained full health thanks to God Almighty.

The story of the temptation of Jesus is well-known to many; Jesus goes into the wilderness and enters a battle with Satan, despite having “suffered” during this battle Jesus is granted victory by God and God sent angels to “attend” to Jesus in the aftermath of the battle. (see Mt 4:1-11, Hebrews 2:18)

A story which is less well-known is that Mohammad had a similar battle and experienced a similar result despite having “suffered” during his battle, he too had angels sent to him to support him, similar to the story of Jesus.

Before looking at the wisdoms and teachings we gain from these stories let us look at the details of Muhammad’s battle with Satanic forces as this is not so well-known and it should be taught to all as it is a great story and a proof of his Prophethood. The story can be found in Sahih Bukhari (v4, b54, n490), quoted in blue italics:

Magic was worked on the Prophet so that he began to fancy that he was doing a thing which he was not actually doing. (ie whether he had visited his wife or not)

Thus we realise this story teaches us he had been affected by these Satanic forces in a minor way thus he “suffered” similar to the way Jesus “suffered”.
However, just like Jesus, Mohammad remained steadfast and Mohammad prayed to God and he was helped by God. God sent two angels to him in a dream and they told him of what he was suffering from, as well as the source of the Satanic force (black magic) and Muhammad was immediately cured by God (Allah):

One day he invoked (Allah) for a long period and then said, "I feel that Allah has inspired me as how to cure myself. Two persons came to me (in my dream) and sat, one by my head and the other by my feet. One of them asked the other, "What is the ailment of this man?" The other replied, 'He has been bewitched" The first asked, 'Who has bewitched him?' The other replied, 'Lubaid bin Al-A'sam.' The first one asked, 'What material has he used?' The other replied, 'A comb, the hair gathered on it, and the outer skin of the pollen of the male date-palm.' The first asked, 'Where is that?' The other replied, 'It is in the well of Dharwan.' " So, the Prophet went out towards the well and then returned and said to me on his return, "Its date-palms (the date-palms near the well) are like the heads of the devils." I asked, "Did you take out those things with which the magic was worked?" He said, "No, for I have been cured by Allah and I am afraid that this action may spread evil amongst the people." Later on the well was filled up with earth.

This is a great story which should be taught to children all over the world as it teaches us that Satan is our enemy so we should also battle against his forces as well as the fact that we should always trust in God, be patient and ask for God’s help. What a set of fine teachings these are, just imagine how much better the world would be if we abided by these teachings and everybody fought against Satan and his forces!


These narrations about Jesus and Muhammad battling Satanic forces teach us much in the way of wisdom and knowledge:

1. Neither Muhammad or Jesus are God, as God does not struggle against Satan or Satanic forces

2. Satan is an open enemy to mankind and is powerless against God

3. We should put our trust in God and be patient (just like Muhammad and Jesus) when being tested and not trust amulets or idols

4. All humans will be tested in this life, we should prepare for our tests

5. We relaise that both Muhammad and Jesus are great men (Prophets) who cannot do anything without help from God, thus we should always be grateful to God for all the things we have been given

6. We gain much inspiration from these stories so we can inject renewed vigour into our personal battles with Satan and his forces in our daily lives
