Sunni Muslim Scholar on Saudi Arabia War in Yemen

Some folks might be confused about Saudi Arabia going to war against the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Yemen.

Don't be.

The Saudi Ambassador stressed that the Saudis "will do anything necessary" to protect the people of the neighbouring Yemen.

You're thinking "hypocrisy!" and "where are they for the people of Syria?" and many other places.

And you'd be right.

This is all about self-interest, not protecting people. This is the nature of war today, and you can't lipstick on a pig. This is the ugly reality of why people do what they do.

However, the Houthis committed suicide in trying to take over Yemen, aligning themselves with the criminal state of Iran and trying to murder their way to power. Now they've forced the hand of those who have no choice but to protect *themselves* because nothing here is about helping one's neighbours. Thus Saudi and its allies enter into a war. And naturally, war is full of hypocrisy. And this one will see huge deserts worth of hypocrisy all over it.

But that doesn't mean we withdraw our support for what is right. The Saudis can have their intentions, and so can we. We must stand with the truth and that is against Iran and its plans to destroy the entire region and recreate their own Safavid Empire and butchering all of Ahl'l-Sunnah along the way, whether in Iran, or in Syria or anywhere they can reach them with their claws.

So, we wish there was no war in the first place. And we wish that Iran hadn't supported genocide wherever it goes. And we wish that the response wasn't from those who will never live down the hypocrisy and the betrayal of the region and the Ummah at large. But this defence of Yemen is correct, and it is needed, and we stand behind it, and so be it.

Ya Allah, protect our Yemen, and protect Ahl'l-Sunnah throughout the world. Ameen

Prophet had more than 4 wives, why?

Why Did Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) Have More Than Four Wives? By Bassam Zawadi

Some Islamic critics tend to criticize Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) because he had more than four wives. They ask, "If the Quran limited each man to have 4 wives (Surah 4:3) then how come the Prophet was able to have more?"

Some people may see this as a privilege to the Prophet. However, with privileges did come restrictions as well.

Qiyam Al Layl (prayers at two third of the night) are not compulsory on Muslims, however they were compulsory on the Prophet.

Surah 17:79

And during a part of the night, pray Tahajjud beyond what is incumbent on you; maybe your Lord will raise you to a position of great glory.

This verse is directly addressed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). (See Tafsir of Ibn Kathir)
So here we see an example of God making exceptions to Prophet Muhammad in certain situations.

Back to the issue of the exception of why the Prophet was allowed to keep more than four wives. Well there was wisdom behind the marriage to each of the wives of the Prophet (see
http://www.bismikaallahuma.org/archives/2005/why-was-the-prophet-polygamous/

Taken from http://www.messageonline.org/2002augsept/cover3.htm

It should be noted that the special exception to the prophet concerning the maximum number of wives [Qur'an, 33: 50] includes also special restrictions on him and his wives from privileges available to all others. For example, his wives as "mothers of the believers" were not allowed to remarry after him [Qur'an 33: 53]. If the Prophet were required to divorce wives beyond the maximum of four, it would have done them injustice; to be divorced and disallowed to remarry. Furthermore, for each of the Prophet's marriages there was a specific lesson, social or legislative. By divorcing some of his wives, those lessons are effectively negated, especially the unifying function of marrying women from different clans and backgrounds. This diversity allowed close observation of his private life and teachings and communicating them to their respective folks. Also, unlike any ordinary Muslim, the Prophet was not allowed to divorce any of his wives and marrying others [33:52].

People may ask why the Prophet's wives were not allowed to remarry. Well just think about how much fitna (corruption) would have occurred when people would want to fight over who is going to marry the Prophet's former wife. Also imagine the fitna that might occur when people might begin to idolize children being born from the Prophet's wives just like how Shias today do with the Prophet's grandchildren.

We can try and guess the wisdom behind Allah's rulings, however no one has any right to criticize the Prophet Muhammad for being a hypocrite in any way for having more than four wives.

More Rubbish From Dr Nabeel Qureshi's Friend

One way of telling if somebody has studied Islam is by listening to them. If you listen to Nabeel Qureshi's buddy you can tell this man really has not studied Islam properly. Perhaps some of the Christian fundamentalists welcome the low-level internet apologetics Nabeel Qureshi's associates propagate but for those who value accuracy and intellectual honesty this type of misinformation is unacceptable. When are Christian apologetics organisations going to publicly attempt to address the shed-loads of misinformation their students and followers present about Islam. Misinformation and dishonesty may trick a few people into churches but at the same time it will alienate more people from churches and Christian preachers.

I'm aware Dr Nabeel Qureshi is set to debate Dr Shabir Ally shortly. Nabeel will be seen as a laughing stock if he presents the type of material his friend just presented.

Muslim Imams Reacts to Lynching of Farkhuna in Afghanistan

So hurt to hear of the death of Sr. Farkhunda, an Afghan women who spoke out in front of a dargah against visiting shrines and wearing talismans, and was then falsely accused of burning the Quran. A mob of angry men literally beat her to death, in front of the watchful eyes of the police, even as she begged them to stop, and then burned her corpse.

As if this was not enough, many of them made videos and pictures of this barbaric tragedy on their cellphones. Someone forwarded me pictures of this incident that made my stomach churn. A sign of how truly civilized a nation is is how it treats its women. May Allah restore the honor and respect that women deserve in our societies!

PS. I do NOT mean to disparage an entire nation because of this incident, and I know that this one act is not representative of the reality of most people, in that region and elsewhere. My comment on 'treatment of women' is meant for all societies, especially Muslim ones, where we are told and taught that Jannah lies under the feet of one woman in our lives! And as our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "The best of you in manners are those who are best to their women." From Dr Yasir Qadhi's Facebook

Our dearly beloved and noble Muslim sister, Farkhunda, has paid the ultimate price, her life, in defense of Tawheed, the truth about Allah's unique Oneness. Armed with formal Islamic knowledge, this Aalimah (female scholar) and Haafizah of Qur'aan (one who memorized the whole Qur'aan) dared to speak out in world of ignorance against the exploitation of innocents. In the name of religion, Mullahs selling charms and amulets in the name of Islam were challenged by our enlightened sister, as the Prophet himself (pbuh) prohibited these objects and called them "Shirk" (Idolatry). In order to silence her and the truth of Islam, the Mullah falsely accused her of burning the Qur'aan, and the enraged hysterical crowd in a frenzy beat her to death in front of the police. May Allah give you the highest station in paradise for your sacrifice, dear sister Farkhunda, and may the aftermath of events awaken and enlighten the Afghan nation, the Muslim nation and the world. And may those who brutally murdered her be brought to justice in this life before the next and be made to pay the price of their most vicious and evil act. Dr Bilal Philips (see his FB)
Protests have been growing in the Afghan capital, Kabul, over the lynching of a woman who was falsely accused of burning the Koran.
More than 2,000 people marched to demand justice for Farkhunda, 28, who was beaten to death by a mob last week.
Tuesday's protests came as the police spokesman for Kabul was sacked for posting a Facebook message endorsing the killing.
Police say they have arrested at least 19 people over the incident.
Farkhunda was beaten to death last Thursday after arguing with a mullah about his practice of selling charms to women at a shrine. In the course of the argument she was accused of burning the Koran and a crowd overheard and attacked her. BBC News

The Rationalizer, Another Ignorant Man Talking About Islam

This guy, The Rationalizer, thinks Joseph (whom Christians believe to be the husband of Mary) was a Prophet in Islam.

After discussing some offensive cartoon about Mary and Joseph, The Rationalizer writes:

Jesus is also a revered prophet in Islam, as is Joseph, even denying these prophets is strictly forbidden and can lead to the death penalty.

Clearly The Rationalizer is another ignorant man who talks about Islam. Muslims do not believe this Joseph to be a Prophet. He seems to have confused Joseph (the son of Jacob) with the Joseph who lived during the time of Jesus (believed by Christians to be the husband of Mary).

Defending Kamal El Mekki Against Islamophobe's Claiming He Fakes Conversions!

This is ridiculous. Somebody with a problem with Kamal El Mekki uploaded the following video about Kamal El Mekki, the guy is calling him magician, liar and what have you. He clearly has a problem with Kamal El Mekki.

However, the guy misunderstood Kamal's JOKE where he's actually advertising for his Fiqh of Dawah course in an Al-Magrhab trailer ad.

So this guy with a problem with Kamal El Mekki makes the following video attacking him:

And now naïve Islamophobes have latched onto it and have begun to claim Kamal El Mekki has been exposed for faking Muslim conversions. Erm no. The only thing that has been exposed is the lack of understanding on the part of the Islamophobes (and on the part of the guy who made the Kamal El Mekki attack video).

Here's the ORIGINAL Al Maghrib Kamal El Mekki trailer in which it's clear that Kamal El Mekki was joking in order to advertise his course. He was trying to be funny...he was not really paying people to pretend to convert to Islam:

Muslim Complains About BBC The Big Questions - Nicky Campbell

If you viewed the ganging up and the premeditated attacks on two Muslim guests on Nicky Campbell's The Big Questions and you feel like you want to do something please do complain. It will only continue to happen if you stay silent, make your voice heard to the BBC and help make it easier for Muslims on such shows in the future.

You can complain using the BBC complaint page. If you wish to use my email complaint you will have to truncate it in order for it to meet the character limit on the BBC's complaint form.

Dear Sir/Madam

I would like to lodge my concerns related to a segment on The Big Questions (Episode 10, Series 8) which I believe aired on Sunday March the 15th.

The segment was entitled 'Do British Muslims have a problem with apostates?'.

Mr Nicky Campbell drifted away from the topic in what seems to be a deliberate and premeditated attempt to corner two of the Muslim guests (Mr Mohammed Shafiq and Mr Abdullah Al Andalusi).

Mr Campbell departed from neutrality and went on the offensive in order to corner Mr Andalusi about something totally unrelated to the topic. Nicky drew a really tentative link between Mr Al-Andalusi and a London imam and thus demanded rather forcefully that he condemns this imam for alleged comments which were totally off-topic. The link between Mr Al-Andalusi and his imam was merely them having shared the same platform in the past. Mr Al-Andalusi has shared platforms with people like the former EDL leader, Tommy Robinson. So Mr Campbell was being rather selective here. For Mr Campbell to draw such a tentative link and then veer away from the topic in hand while aggressively asking the guest to condemn this imam was an abandonment of neutrality, a basic level of integrity and respect.

A similar approach was adopted by Mr Campbell with regards to Mr Shafiq in which Mr Campbell again veered away from the subject in a premeditated attempt to corner Mr Shafiq for unrelated past comments on social media. Mr Shafiq expressed his concern while on the show stating it appears to be a 'witch-hunt' against certain guests - two Muslims guests (himself and Mr Andalusi).

Aside from this, even the title of the topic and the general approach seemed to be stacked against Muslims. Surely, a fairer approach would have been, not to simply focus on former Muslims but to open up the discuss for people of a variety of faiths to discuss their experiences with their families upon them leaving their respective faiths. Framing the discussion solely on Muslims can easily turn into a witch-hunt against Muslim.

I do believe this segment of the show did the BBC a disservice.

Regards

A few further considerations

Amal Farah seems to have an unhealthy intent on attacking her former faith. Moreover, she uses the standard Islamophobic arguments and exhibits clear signs of ignorance. Her claim that Taqiya is about 'tricking Western audiences' not only highlights her ignorance of the concept of Taqiya but also draws attention to her odd distinction between Muslims and the West; she would do well to remember there are millions of Muslims in the West...she should know as she used to be one.

Abdullah Al Andalusi has wrote a review  in which he makes a few good points but in my opinion he should have been more direct in answering the question about apostasy as he ultimately invited the focus on himself. I assume the topic would have been announced before his appearance on the show thus he would have had time to prepare for such questioning. Muslim speakers need to prepare answers for such panel shows which are direct, succinct and in accordance with mainstream Islam.

A reminder so people don't repeat the '0 exMuslims have been killed for apostasy in the UK' line, an incident in 1989:

Moslem who cut his daughter's throat because she decided to become a Jehovah's Witness was convicted of murder Tuesday and sentenced to life in prison.
APNews

There's a good little clip of Dr Yasir Qadhi discussing apostasy and whether they should be killed in Non-Muslim countries:

Should Ex Muslims Be Killed in the West? Dr Yasir Qadhi

The BBC would do well not to use anybody from CEMB in the future, this group just seems to be an anti-Muslim hate group.

Explaining Hadith: Fight disbelievers until they believe

Are Muslims Commanded To Fight Until Everyone Submits to Islam?

A common Hadith that critics often bring up is the following one:

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 24:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

Allah's Apostle said: "I have been ordered (by Allah) to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah's Apostle, and offer the prayers perfectly and give the obligatory charity, so if they perform a that, then they save their lives an property from me except for Islamic laws and then their reckoning (accounts) will be done by Allah."

So from the above Hadith, they conclude that Muslims are obligated to fight the non-Muslims, until they convert to Islam, and this proves that Islam is not a peaceful religion but a religion that does seek to impose itself on everyone.

Now as with most things, especially when we’re dealing with a piece of a text, is that we analyze the text in it’s context, rather than simply isolating it all on it’s own, and then deriving a supposed interpretation and conclusion. Anyone who studies about Islam will find that the Holy Quran teaches for religious freedom:

Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things. (2:256)

So if they dispute with thee, say: "I have submitted My whole self to Allah and so have those who follow me." And say to the People of the Book and to those who are unlearned: "Do ye (also) submit yourselves?" If they do, they are in right guidance, but if they turn back, Thy duty is to convey the Message; and in Allah's sight are (all) His servants. (3:20)

And an entire chapter devoted to religious freedom:

Say: O ye that reject Faith! I worship not that which ye worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship, Nor will ye worship that which I worship. To you be your Way, and to me mine. (Surah 109)

So it is quite clear that Islam teaches religious tolerance, nobody is compelled to follow Islam, they can keep their way and religion, and the same for the Muslims. So in light of this one must therefore apply the Hadith to this context, one cannot simply ignore all these verses and then go on to conclude that Islam teaches forced conversions to Islam.

Now we move to the second part, and we go back to the Quran, because the above Hadith is very familiar to a Quranic passage, and the passage reads as follows:

And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah altogether and everywhere; but if they cease, verily Allah doth see all that they do. (8:39)

In the above passage Muslims are commanded to fight until there is no more oppression, till justice prevails, and when faith is for Allah. This is essentially the same message as the Hadith in a slight different wording, but the content is similar. Now off course if we applied the same narrow minded methodology as many Islamophobes do, then we too would have to conclude that 8:39 commands Muslims to fight until people have faith in Allah, meaning convert to Islam and submit to Allah. In fact the Islamophobic bigot Geert Wilders brought this verse up in his Fitna documentary.

If anyone studies the context of 8:39 one will see that this verse was aimed at the Pagans, not only was this verse revealed against the Pagans, but the very same Pagans the Muslims were at war with. Basically this verse was revealed during a time of war between the Muslims and the Pagans, the very same Pagans who initiated the war as the verse itself mentions, the Muslims are to fight them until there is no more OPPRESSION, and these Pagans were oppressing the Muslims. The Pagans were the ones who began the conflict, and the reason behind this conflict was simply down to the faith of Muslims, the Muslims were being persecuted by the Pagans precisely because of their Muslim faith. Muslims were beaten, tortured, and killed at the hands of the Pagans.

So how does this all relate to the Hadith in question? The reason why it relates to the Hadith is because the Quranic verse is very similar to what the prophet said, and when one analyzes the Quran one will find that when it gave this specific ruling, it was revealed during a time of war, and revealed against the Pagan combatants. Hence we must apply the same standard to the Hadith in question. After all, the best interpretation to the Quran and Hadith is the Quran and Hadith itself.

If one were to also study what Islamic scholarship had to say about this, then they would further see that the Islamophobic interpretation is unfounded. For example the well known and major scholar, Imam Nawawi, explained the Hadith as referring to the Pagan Arabs, and as we have mentioned, these were the same Pagan Arabs who initiated the conflict with the Muslims. And finally, Ibn Taymiyyah, another major Islamic scholar who is often labeled as an extremist had this to say about the hadith in question:

"It refers to fighting those who are waging war, whom Allah has permitted us to fight. It does not refer to those who have a covenant with us with whom Allah commands us to fulfill our covenant." [Majmû` al-Fatâwâ (19/20)]

So that’s that.
