About the talk -

The signs and portents of the Day of Resurrection are the things that will happen before the Resurrection takes place and will indicate that it is close at hand. They have been divided into lesser and greater signs. The lesser signs, for the most part, will occur a long time before the Resurrection begins. Some of them have happened and ended -- although they may be repeated -- and some of them have appeared and are ongoing, and some have not yet happened, but they will happen as the truthful one (the Prophet) (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) has told us.

The major signs are serious matters, the appearance of which will indicate that the Day of Resurrection is at hand and that there is only a short time until that great Day comes.

The lesser signs of the Hour are many, and are mentioned in many saheeh ahaadeeth. We will list them together without quoting the ahaadeeth, because there is not enough room to do so here. We will provide references to trustworthy books on the topic for those who wish to know more about this matter and the evidence for these signs. These include al-Qiyaamah al-Sughra by Shaykh 'Umar Sulaymaan al-Ashqar [this book is available in English translation under the title The Minor Resurrection, published by International Islamic Publishing House, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia] and Ashraat al-Saa'ah by Shaykh Yoosuf al-Waabil.

The lesser signs of the Hour include the following:

1. The sending of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
2. The death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
3. The conquest of Jerusalem.
4. The plague of Amwaas (Emmaus), which is a city in Palestine.
5. Widespread wealth and lack of need for charity.
6. The appearance of fitan (tribulations). Among the tribulations that occurred in the early years of Islam were: the killing of 'Uthmaan (may Allaah be pleased with him), the battle of the camel and the battle of Siffeen, the emergence of the Khawaarij, the battle of al-Harrah, and the opinion that the Qur'aan is a creation.
7. The emergence of claimants to Prophethood, such as the liar Musaylimah and al-Aswad al-'Anasi.
8. The appearance of fire in the Hijaaz, which appeared in the middle of the 7th century AH, in 654 AH. This was a great fire, which the scholars who were alive at the time of its appearance and those who came after them described in great detail. Al-Nawawi said: There appeared in our time a fire in Madeenah, in the year six hundred and fifty-four. It was a very great fire on the eastern side of Madeenah, beyond the Harrah, and knowledge of it was widespread throughout Syria and all lands. Those of the people of Madeenah who were present told me about it.
9. Loss of trust. One of the manifestations of loss of trust is people's affairs being entrusted to those who are not qualified or able for that.
10. The taking away of knowledge and the prevalence of ignorance; the taking away of knowledge will occur with the disappearance of the scholars, as it says in al-Saheehayn.
11. The spread of zina (adultery, fornication)
12. The spread of riba (usury, interest)
13. The prevalence of musical instruments.
14. Widespread drinking of alcohol.
15. Shepherds competing in the construction of tall buildings.
16. A slave woman giving birth to her mistress, as is stated in al-Saheehayn. There are several views among the scholars as to what this means. The view favoured by Ibn Hajar is that there will be widespread disobedience among children, so that a child will treat his mother as a master treats his slave woman, with negligence and insults.
17. Widespread killing.
18. Widespread earthquakes.
19. Appearance of landslides, transformations and stones from heaven.
20. Appearance of women who are clothed yet naked.
21. Believer's dreams coming true.
22. Widespread giving of false testimony and concealment of true testimony.
23. Large numbers of women.
24. The land of the Arabs becoming once again meadows and rivers.
25. The Euphrates will uncover a mountain of gold.
26. Wild animals and inanimate objects will speak to people.
27. The "Romans" will increase in number and fight the Muslims.
28. The conquest of Constantinople.

Muslims and Christians Walk Against Islamophobia

DALLAS – Suffering for years from bias, hate and misunderstanding, Dallas Muslims decided to take an action, arranging a walk to reject anti-Muslim sentiments and spread awareness about Islam and Muslims.

“I deal with Islamophobia on a regular basis with clients all the time,” Yvonne Munoz, a lawyer with a Christian upbringing who reverted to Islam in 2008, told Dallas News on Saturday, May 31. “Automatically my clients will not want to meet with me and want somebody else. Once they meet with me and find that I am kind and helpful and … they change their idea.” Proudly wearing a black head scarf, Munoz is one of the Muslim professionals who participated in Saturday’s “Walk Against Islamophobia”.

 The walk has been arranged by Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and a group of young Muslim activists called Enlightened Generations. In a bid to shed light on the problems facing Muslims in the American community about 80 Muslim activists gathered at Reverchon Park in Dallas’ Oak Lawn area for the walk. Gathering before the walk, speakers shared personal experiences of discrimination they face regularly.

One speaker, Dallas activist Nicole Queen, said that during a recent lunch with a friend, someone put bacon in her drink as a joke. “They were hoping I would slurp it or eat something I am not supposed to eat,” Queen said. “I did not have anything like that happen before until I chose to be a Muslim. It was eye-opening to me,” Queen said.

Though 9/11 attacks were vehemently rejected by the majority of world Muslim, the stain of terrorism remained to affect Muslims’ daily life. Munoz and others hope events like Saturday’s walk might help break that connection in people’s minds. “Islam brought peace in my life,” Munoz said. “I was able to put myself through a lot of struggles I would not have been able to do if I didn’t find a peace.”

Unity The walk has drawn members from other faith communities, including Wes Magruder, senior pastor at Kessler Park United Methodist Church in Dallas. “I went to the rally, and I have to say I was absolutely shocked,” Magruder said. “I was not prepared for what I heard or what I saw. I heard and I saw the reality our Muslim brothers and sisters live with all the time.”

The pastor said he began advocating for Muslim rights after attending an anti-Muslim rally in downtown Dallas. Yet, the Muslim support has put him in the face of criticism storm for advocating Muslims’ rights. “That scared me. The things I heard were shocking. I heard Muslims described as ‘Third World Neanderthals.’ I heard all about the Muslim plot to take over the world,” he said. “Christian pastors told us we were not Christian pastors — that we were the enemy and a disgrace to our churches.”

 The diversity, however, has pleased the event organizers. “We want to promote activism in our youth, and so I am very happy and excited about the turnout,” Alia Salem, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Dallas-Fort Worth chapter, said. Though there are no official estimates, the US is home to from 7-8 million Muslims. An earlier Gallup poll found that the majority of Americans Muslims are loyal to their country and optimistic about their future in the United States. Since the 9/11 attacks on the United States, many Muslims have complained of facing discrimination and stereotypes in the society because of their Islamic attires or identities. Carey would do better to condemn Britain’s Forced Conversion of Muslims

The former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey has commented in response to a story from Sudan that a woman faces punishment for apostasy from Islam.

He is reported by the Times to have said Muslims in Britain “get a really good deal” here with the freedom to worship and to convert people to Islam. “I want to hear Muslim leaders say ‘we allow Muslims to become Christians if they wish to’. It could be a ripe moment for us to do something together, not only in condemning such atrocities but to hear Muslim leaders say that we do believe the fundamental human right to change your religion.”

It would be unwise to comment on secondhand reports of stories from another country, when the facts cannot be fully known.

However, commenting on the former Archbishop’s statement, Taji Mustafa, UK media representative for Hizb ut-Tahrir said:

“George Carey has form when it comes to having a go at Islam and Muslims – so his remarks are unsurprising, but he would do better to look closer to home and comment of Britain’s attempts at forced conversion of Muslims – not to Christianity, but to secularism, liberalism and capitalism!”

“The ‘really good deal’ Muslims In the UK get these days is to be bullied – on an almost daily basis by politicians and media – to abandon traditional Islamic values and instead adopt secular liberal capitalists values.”

“In modern Britain, the police implement the government’s ‘Prevent’ strategy. It is called ‘counter extremism’ but does little more than intimidate law abiding Muslims unless they ‘reform’ the religion and adopt secular liberal values.”

“The state uses the Charities commission and Ofsted to enforce this agenda – and we are now told that NHS staff are supposed to spy on Muslims to further this agenda.”

“All the forces of the State, bar execution are used to force Muslims to become secular liberal capitalists. Yet, George Carey has yet to be heard condemning any of this.”

“Moreover, in their foreign policy, successive British governments have killed and bombed in order to “convert” Muslim countries to comply with a secular capitalist way of life – or installed and backed brutal regimes who persecute Muslims for their beliefs.”

“We hold no brief for a regime such that in Sudan – which like many countries in the Muslim world adopts a selective implementation of Islam – throwing the book at individuals but adopting an unIslamic political system and fulfilling the policy agenda of colonial powers. Such regimes give no one confidence that they are applying Islam’s laws correctly.”

“Nonetheless, it is important we clarify the traditional Islamic position that apostasy from Islam is prohibited, much the same way as Western countries do not permit freedom of political loyalty, and punish treason. People such as Edward Snowden, Glen Greenwald and Julian Assange have learned that it you change your loyalty from the political establishment in the West, you will not simply be chased by your own state, but by several of them working together.”

“Islam does not allow the state to spy upon people or sneakily uncover people’s beliefs that they keep private. Islam demands high burdens of proof and certainties about whether or not anyone has committed a crime they are accused of. Islam demands that a person who publicly espouses a rejection of their previously held Islamic beliefs would be discussed with and tried to be convinced intellectually of the Islamic belief. “

“However, it is without question that it is a normative and orthodox Islamic position that if someone persists in publicly espousing their apostasy – and is proven by due process to have done so, they would be punished by a government, even by execution, akin to laws of treason in the West that enforce political loyalty to a particular nation state.”

“In Islam it is not allowed to use force or coercion to make someone become Muslim – unlike the way that people are forced by the British state to become secular and liberal.”

“Mr Carey would do better to look at Britain’s record of coercing people in beliefs than to push to see Islam diluted and reformed – as happened to Christianity over the centuries.”

Just so nobody is confused, Mutah is not allowed in Islam. An EXPERT, Dr Yasir Qadhi, explains he history and teachings around Mutah (temporary marriage):



Here we learn temporary marriage is not allowed in Islam. It was something which was allowed in the early days but was later prohibited (forbidden). The Sharia prohibits this type of marriage.

Simple. There should be no confusion over the issue of Mutah and nobody should alow the spin of the American anti-Muslim brigade to confuse them.

Muslim View on Killings at Jewish Museum in Brussels

This is crazy. As Muslims we should be shocked and appalled that somebody would just start indiscriminately killing people, be they Jews, Christians or Muslims.  The Islamophobes are using this story to bash Muslims. They don't care about the families of the victims - they just want to preach hate propaganda against Muslims.

BBC—Prosecutors say a Frenchman being held over a fatal shooting at the Jewish Museum in Brussels admitted the killings in a video.

Mehdi Nemmouche, 29, was arrested in at a train station in Marseille on Friday.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said the suspect had claimed responsibility for the 24 May attack, which left three people dead and another critically ill.

He said Mr Nemmouche had spent over a year in Syria and had links with radical Islamists.

Security was tightened at Jewish sites across Belgium following the shooting.

Police found Mr Nemmouche had in his possession a Kalashnikov rifle and a handgun believed to have been used in the attack, the Paris prosecutor told a news conference on Sunday.

With the weapons was a white sheet emblazoned with the name of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, a jihadist group fighting in Syria, according to Mr Molins.

Mr Nemmouche was also said to be carrying a camera with a 40-second video showing the two guns and a voice recording, claiming responsibility for the killings and expressing regret that the device had not succeeded in capturing the shooting.

Muslim Message to Robert and Bowe Bergdahl

The right wing are having a go at Robert (Bob) Bowe and Bowe Berghdahl. I don't know much about these two men. I don't know if they have converted to Islam or not. It will be great if they are Muslims. Let's face it, America needs more Muslims to help change America to a more modest and just society

I think Bowe Bergdahl has the potential to expose the injustice of the American war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Somebody like Bowe has potential to be a global hero. Of course right now he's recovering - assuming he recovers here are 3 things he should do.

1. If he is not already a Muslim, Bowe Bergdahl should convert to Islam. Islam is the truth and it gives a narrative about Jesus (p) which resonates with logic and can be easily accepted by the mind and heart. The world is crying out for Muslim heroes right now!

2. Bowe Bergdahl should highlight the injustice of the war in Afghanistan and any atrocities he may have witnessed. This way he can add further support to the anti-war movement in the US and UK as well as  helping to discourage young Americans from joining the American forces.

3. Bowe Bergdahl should try to help people in American and other non-Muslim countries to understand Muslims and Islam better. Right now we, in the West, are being swamped by anti-Muslim feeling and propaganda. The situation needs people to stand up against the Islamophobes and explain Islam to the American and European non-Muslim masses. People as high profile as Bowe and Robert Bergdahl could certainly help the situation for the better.

No pig DNA in chocolates: Malaysia

 Indonesian and Malaysian authorities should continue to be vigilant

 

Cadbury chocolates in Malaysia have been cleared of containing pig DNA, easing outrage among Muslim groups who had called for a boycott of all Cadbury products, the country's Islamic body has said.

Earlier this month, the health ministry said porcine DNA was found in two varieties of Cadbury chocolates, prompting the company to recall the products.

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department said today that new tests on 11 samples taken from the factory showed no trace of pork in the two products, Cadbury's Dairy Milk Hazelnut and Dairy Milk Roast Almond bars.

Islamic officials said the earlier samples could have been contaminated as they did not come direct from the factory.

The controversy sparked a furore among Muslim groups, who accused the British confectionery company of trying to "weaken" Muslims in Malaysia. [Source]

News story of latest attack:

Dozens of people were feared dead following an explosion in north-eastern Nigeria, with Boko Haram militants believed to be behind the attack.

The attack took place last night near a primary school where there are also a number of beer halls in the town of Mubi in Adamawa state.

It is one of the three states under a year-old emergency rule imposed by President Goodluck Jonathan to fight Boko Haram, which seeks to impose Islamic rule in Nigeria.

Othman Abubakar, a spokesman for the Adamawa state police, confirmed the explosion but he could not say how many people had been killed or injured.

David Dauda, who witnessed the blast, said he saw at least 30 bodies following the explosion.
"The blast occurred shortly after people are dispersing from a football playing ground," he said.
"People gathered there to watch a football competition and just few minutes after soldiers patrol vehicle left the place then we heard a blast."

The explosion occurred at around 6.45pm local time when many people were headed home to make a 7.00pm curfew imposed in the wake of earlier attacks.

Nigeria's north-eastern region has suffered five years of increasingly deadly assaults by Boko Haram, whose fighters have targeted towns and villages in a string of bomb and gun attacks.
At least 2,000 civilians have been killed in such attacks this year alone.

Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for kidnapping more than 300 schoolgirls in the town of Chibok on April 15. Fifty seven girls are believed to have escaped, which leaves an estimated 272 still held captive.

In another attack yesterday evening, also in Adamawa state, suspected Boko Haram members opened fire at people indiscriminately around the town of Madagali, according to witnesses [source]

Sara Cox and Pitbull: Sexism and Objectification of Women in Pop

We've all seen the sexual objectification in Western popular culture yet there has been relatively little outcry against it. The right wing media seem to pay more attention to immigrants and halal meat rather than trying to stamp out this social ill within popular culture.

The Muslims have a solution for the disease of sexual objectification of women here in the West. The solution is Islam. Sara Cox has spoken out against one artist. I think people in pop music could benefit from learning about Islam's teachings of respect for the woman.

Sara Cox, the former BBC Radio 1 DJ, has criticised the station for playing music with sexist lyrics by rapper Pitbull.

Cox told the Radio Times: “Someone like Pitbull on Radio 1 makes my soul weep with the way he sings about women. I just couldn’t bear playing that.”

..For all his commercial success, the depiction of women in some of his songs, as well as the accompanying music videos, has prompted controversy.

One post on Pitbull’s own website by the mother of a 14-year-old listener claimed that his lyrics “harm girls”. The writer said that after being directed to the songs by her daughter, “I was shocked at how misogynistic they are… Some of the lyrics make women seem like nothing more than an object for the gratification of men.” [Independent]

It is not at all surprising that the State Department would not mention Islam in connection with honor killings.
