This shows that there were people, early on in the history of Christianity, who understood the paraclete to be a Prophet who would come after Jesus (p). Christians should look into Prophet Muhammad (p) as indeed he is the Prophet who came after Prophet Jesus (p).

Dr Yasir Qadhi does touch on the socioeconomic conditions, power dynamics and the false pretext of freedom of speech. In his view, there are other factors in play here - not merely offensive cartoons.

Dr Yasir Qadhi highlights the double standard where certain types of expressions are not allowed while others are.

The purpose of the images was to intentionally insult. The Charlie Hebdo publication of relatively unknown (less than 50,000 subscribers) and now it's world famous and others are following in the same suit as this magazine. Dr Yasir Qadhi asks people not to insult the Prophet (p).

The way to defend the Prophet (p) is to exhibit the characteristics of the Prophet (p) of kindness, love and compassion.

Calamities as the fruit of our tyranny

Muslim Scholar Advises Muslims in Charlie Hebdo Aftermath

Have you ever wondered what the Muslim leaders and scholars are telling Muslims in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attack?

Here is the advice by Sheikh Abu Eesa Niamatullah (taken from his FB)

The continuing intentional insulting of the Prophet (upon whom be peace) and the Muslims, coupled with the utter hypocrisy of people claiming freedom of expression and yet rapidly criminalising the freedom of Muslims, enrages us. And correctly so, because it is pathetic, blatant and unrelenting.

But we have to try and be cool and collected. We have to work within the system to make our position clear to them. We have to use legitimate tools and avenues to work towards legislative change in order to stop them. We have to show that we will not be provoked by them. We have to be better than them. We have to educate them. We have to purify hearts and minds - us and them.

We can't let anger dictate our agenda and then take the law into our own hands, and we certainly can't claim to enact out a law which is incorrect and/or illegal such as displayed by terrorists.

When our community goes through difficult times, we should remember that having patience isn't just alleviating, but it is *obligatory* as well. Remember that, like medicine, sometimes you can't see the benefit but you are forced to have it in order for you to not miss out on that benefit.

Ibn al-Qayyim said,

"To actively express patience is obligatory, by consensus of the Nation. In fact as Imam Ahmed said, "Allah has mentioned being patient over 90 times in the Qur'an." (Madarij al-Salikeen, 1/84)

We *have* to be patient. At the very least you will get some reward out of this mess!

And no, being patient isn't defeatist or cowardly or "establishment" or secular or selling out. But it *is* hard. And it is what we are tested on. And it's not easy especially when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. But that's ok because we aren't Charlie. We are Muslim.

If Ted Shoebat was Muslim and said stuff like this..

If a somewhat prominent Muslim openly agreed with the idea of banning transsexuals from driving, would it not be front page news?

Here's a somewhat well-known Christian, Theodore Shoebat (son of Walid Shoebat), expressing his support for banning transgender people from driving, his desire for Russia to increase the 'persecution' and 'oppression' of homosexuals and his ultimate hope of Old Testament law to be introduced:

God bless Russia. This just gets better and better. Now Russia has passed a new law banning all transgender mutants from driving. God bless them with many blessings.

I hope that Russia will continue on intensifying the persecution and oppression of homosexuals and their demonic agenda. They are working increments; first they could not make parades, now the mutants can’t drive. Soon, God willing, the next step with be the Holy Law of God imposed on these walking abominations.

Its amazing how many Christians have broken down in the battle against homosexuality. I just did a talk and a girl aggressively approached me, and maliciously was telling me how wrong I am. I simply quoted to her St. Paul, that the law is not made for the righteous, but for the unrighteous.

I then asked her if two men can sodomize each other and still have salvation. She said yes. I started laughing, and said God destroyed an entire city of sodomites, and now he is going to allow them into His Kingdom? What a perverse, debased, and demonic individual.

So is this being reported by American news stations and newspapers? If not, why not?

Erm, dating is not even allowed in Islam.

Rise of Sunnis and Decline of Mutazilites

For several decades in the early ninth century, the Mutazila enjoyed tremendous favour at the Abbasid court in Baghdad, but their power was no always so humorously exercised. Ibn Hanbal was tortured and imprisioned, and other Sunni scholars were killed for refusing to embrace Mutazila beliefs. In 848, this changed. The new Abbasid Caliph, Mutawakkil, embraced Sunni beliefs. He brought the leading Sunni scholars out of prison and sent them to the great Cathedral mosques of Baghdad. There they narrated Hadiths to crowds, reciting their full isnads back in time through chains of great scholars to the Messenger of God. Their Hadiths stressed the immediacy and closeness of God, including such prophetic sayings as the promise that believing Muslims would behold their Lord directly on the Day of Judgement. The ascendancy of the 'People of the Sunna' brought with it the steep decline of the Mutazila fortunes. By the eleventh century they were few in number and limited to scholarly circles along the Silk Road in Baghdad, Iran, the mountains of Yemen and the oases of Central Asia.

The triumph of what would become the majority school of thought and sect in Islam was the most remarkable development in the ninth through the eleventh centuries. But if there are specific attacks against me floating around the Internet, I simply don’t know it. And when I do know it, I don’t find it particularly upsetting. At least not upsetting enough to dig into what someone else is saying about me.

I’ll give a clear instance. I’ve had several public debates with my friend Dan Wallace, a professor of New Testament at the exceedingly conservative evangelical Dallas Theological Seminary. In our first debate, we were supposed to be talking about whether we can be sure that we have the original wording of the New Testament, given the fact that we don’t have the original manuscripts but only copies made, in most instances, very much later, and that these copies all differ from one another in one way or another. In the debate, I talked about this topic and gave my views about it based on my years of research. And what did Dan do? He actually didn’t talk very much about the topic. What he wanted to talk about was me, about how one thing that I said at one time contradicted something that I said at some other time – he came up with lots of these – so that I couldn’t be trusted in anything that I said.

I thought that was a rather odd way to engage in a debate, since the topic was not whether Bart Ehrman was reliable but whether the manuscripts of the New Testament were. In point of fact, I could easily defend myself against this kind of attack – a lot of what Dan has said about me over the years involves taking my comments out of context, or misrepresenting my views, or … well, there are lots of problems. But I refuse to defend myself at any length about such things. And why? Because to me, they aren’t relevant to the topic. And I have better things to do than show that Dan’s assaults on me are unfounded.

The clearest indication of the difference between Dan and me is that I would NEVER, ever read through all of the things that Dan has written, examining them down to the detail, with a fine-tooth comb, to see if something that he said in 1993 is at odds with something he said in 2004. Why would I bother to do such a thing? Why would I waste my time? Who in the world cares? If I don’t care about such things, I really don’t think others should either.

And so even though I am, in fact, pretty thin skinned, I normally simply don’t get into these kinds of arguments. [From Bart's FB]
