American Woman Goes to Saudi Arabia

A female university student from the US said her 10-day experience in Saudi Arabia with nine other students allowed her to become familiar with a culture that many people do not understand and view negatively.

Miranda Beggin, who studies at Northeastern University in Boston, said she and her colleagues decided before they arrived in the Kingdom to wear an abaya and cover their hair out of respect for the local traditions.

“Nobody asked us to do that, and nobody stopped us in the streets if we were not wearing the abaya or the headdress,” she told the local media.

The American student confirmed she did not encounter any danger or problem during their visits to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Dhahran.

In response to a question about contrasts between Saudi and American societies, Beggin said that Saudis see themselves as part of a collective society, as opposed to the individualistic characteristics that make up American society.

“Saudis give priority to society and culture before their individual ambitions,” she said.Beggin is planning to visit the country again. Arab News

Muslim Message to US Army Murderer - Jeremy Morlock

People can be transformed. The opponents of the Prophet (p) were particularly vicious against Muslims. Hind actually bit into the liver of the Prophet's uncle, Hamzah, when he was martyred at the Battle of Uhud. However, she later became a Muslim, and hence became a Companion of the Prophet (p), a member of that special generation of humanity. In fact, she even narrated hadith which can be found in the well-known compilations. Repentance is a recourse that the Lord of the World's has given humanity. [p129, Purification of the Heart by Hamza Yusuf]

An American soldier has pleaded guilty to being part of a "kill team" who deliberately murdered Afghan civilians for sport last year.

Army Specialist Jeremy Morlock, 23, told a military court he had helped to kill three unarmed Afghans. "The plan was to kill people, sir," he told an army judge in Fort Lea, near Seattle, after his plea.

The case has caused outraged headlines around the world. In a series of videotaped confessions to investigators, some of which have been broadcast on American television, Morlock detailed how he and other members of his Stryker brigade set up and faked combat situations so that they could kill civilians who posed no threat to them. Four other soldiers are still to come to trial over the incidents.

The case is a PR disaster for America's military and has been compared to the notorious incidents of torture that emerged from the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. This week the German magazine Der Spiegel published three pictures that showed American soldiers, including Morlock, posing with the corpse of a young Afghan boy as if it were a hunting trophy. Shamoun flying to moderate a debate...best stay at home Sam

This is silly, he's flying in to try and moderate a debate between Matt Slick and Shadid Lewis.

He's got a phobia of flying:

as well as for me to be able to fly on the plane both to the event and back. As you know by now, I suffer from a sever phobia of being locked in places,

Just stay at home. Why is he even going through all this hassle just to have his face in the spotlight for a few moments? Look, you're not respected enough to be considered for a debate by most Muslim apologists. Just give it up Sam, your career's over...stop trying o worm yourself back in. This is not 1995.

Did Muslims or Zionists Send Death Threats to Jenny Tonge?

Jenny Tonge reveals she receives death threats when she criticises Israel. Death threats from Zionists.

If Muslims were sending somebody of the standing of Jenny Tonge death threats it would receive much more media coverage. There really seems to be one rule for Muslims and another rule for the rest when it comes to media reporting.

George Galloway, a British MP, was physically attacked by a Zionist recently yet it received relatively little press coverage. If a Muslim attacked a British MP in the streets of London we all know the press would have a field day with the story.

Yasir Qadhi Refutes Graeme Wood: 'What ISIS Really Wants'

From YQ's FB:

I was interviewed alongside Graeme Wood, the author of The Atlantic article, 'What ISIS Really Wants'. The interview will be broadcast on NPR stations tomorrow, but it's already online here:

http://interfaithradio.org/Story_Details/ISIS__Driven_by_Revenge_or_Theology_

Overall I was satisfied with the interview and felt that I got my main points across. The thrust of the interview (for those who can't listen to it) was that Graeme's article almost completely sidelines the main cause of the rise of ISIS, and that is the utterly destructive American foreign policy in the region. For over 35 years, America has been directly meddling in that region, by supporting and deposing dictators, going to war twice, imposing sanctions that killed millions, installing puppet regimes that allowed for sectarian massacres, dropping hundred of thousands of tons of bombs over the last decade and a half, and the list goes on and on.

But rather than concentrate on those issues, Mr. Wood's article concentrates on 'Islamic laws' and how ISIS is so 'Islamic'.

Had it not been for the barbarity of the American invasions and sanctions, regular, ordinary Muslims would not have resorted to or believed in the barbarity of ISIS. This is not a justification of ISIS - it is a call of accountability for the role that America itself played in the direction creation of the causes that allowed ISIS to come forth.

What Every Christian Should Know About The Gospel Of John

Have you ever wondered whether the Gospel of John is reliable? It's different from the Synoptic Gospels (the other three canonized Gospels). Have you ever thought why is it different?

These questions are important if you are a Christian who uses the Gospel of John as a proof text to believe that Jesus is God.

I have prepared a short video looking into the historical reliability of the Gospel of John. /did you know the New Testament scholar, Mike Licona (an evangelical Christian) believes John changed the Gospel story for theological reasons. What else did he change?

Christian Scholar Admits Gospel of John is not Historically Reliable

From Dr Shabir Ally we see:

The ‘spear thrust’ in the Gospel of John (19:34) is not considered historical thus, even within the Gospel accounts, there is nothing which could have killed Jesus. Within the story, Pilate wondered whether Jesus had died too.

Why did the early Christians wind up believing Jesus was divine, largely because of the theological developments in the Gospel of John.

From Ali Ataie:

John waits till roughly the year 100 AD to write his Gospel and is roughly 100 years of age at the time. John had  been illiterate till the age of 35. Why wait so long to write his Gospel. Ali Ataie believes he probably did not write it.

From Paul Williams:

It’s widely agreed amongst NT scholars that Jesus did NOT think of himself as divine and nor did he teach the doctrine of the incarnation.

The following New Testament sayings which Christians use to claim Jesus claimed divinity are all from the Gospel of John and it’s widely agreed amongst scholars that these sayings cannot be responsibly attributed to Jesus:

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” [John 14:76 NIV]

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? [John 14:9 NIV]

Of course, if they cannot be attributed to Jesus then they are forgeries.

From Dr Mike Licona (evangelical Christian New Testament scholar) we see:

Ancient biographers took liberties hence the discrepancies in the Gospels. Mike Licona believes John altered the Gospel in order to make a theological point (specifically on the Gospel account’s day of the crucifixion)

Mike Licona basically admits the Gospel of John is not historically reliable.

Considering all the information being offered how can Christians trust the Gospel of John? The answer is they cannot. It is unreliable.

What’s the solution here?

Upon seeing the lack of reliability of the New Testament one should not become disheartened. You may well have devoted many years of your life to those teachings believing them to be faithful teachings.

Where to go next?

Well there is a group of people who believe Jesus is not divine, he is a Prophet of God, the Gospels are not reliable, Jesus was not killed and there is only one God. This group of people are the Muslims. Muslims have the correct beliefs about God and all the Prophets including Jesus. Please look into Islam further:

Are Muslim Men Stopping Jewish Women From Driving? Or Are Jewish Men Stopping Them?

Jewish Women Not Allowed to Drive in America by the Jewish Community!

Well, have you heard Fox News or any of the right wing Zionists mentioning this? If Muslim women were not allowed to drive in Dearborn by conservative Muslim men you know the Islamophobic bigots would be out on mass.

Remember this is America. Not Israel or Saudi Arabia. Jewish women are not allowed to drive by Jewish men. I repeat Jewish women aren't allowed to drive by Jewish men!!!

Is anybody talking about sending the US army into Kiryas Joel to 'liberate' the Jewish women? Is anybody from the right wing demonising these Jews? Is this even making television news?

We all know it would be major news if Muslim men in America were stopping Jewish or Muslims women from driving. Why the imbalance in reporting?

I would like to know if this is a teaching this Jewish group got from the Bible or whether this is just one of their customs

Frimet Goldberger grew up in Kiryas Joel, New York, an ultra-Orthodox Satmar Hasidic community about an hour's drive northwest of New York City. An overwhelming majority of the village’s 22,000 residents live below the federal poverty threshold, according to The New York Times. Most of the men devote their lives to studying the Torah, while the women marry young and have large families (the town's median household size is almost six people, the highest in the country). The custom is for women to stay home to take care of the family as full-time homemakers.

And they aren’t allowed to drive.

In fact, women who get behind the wheel in Kiryas Joel risk being shunned and having their children taken out of school. They can’t be jailed for the act, but they may be socially ostracized -- or even expelled from the community they’ve grown up in, Goldberger recently wrote for

Nine people have been arrested in connection with a gun attack in Tunis that saw 23 people killed on Wednesday, including 20 foreign tourists.

Tunisia's presidency said four of those arrested were directly linked to the attack and five had "ties to the cell".

The army will also be deployed to major cities, the presidency added. In another development, Islamic State said it was behind the attack on the Bardo museum, using an audio message to praise two "knights of the caliphate". The message, posted on Twitter accounts known to be reliable sources of IS propaganda, named the attackers as Abu-Zakariya al-Tunisi and Abu-Anas al-Tunisi.

A statement described the attack as a "blessed invasion of one of the dens of infidels and vice in Muslim Tunisia". BBC

Polygamy in Christian History

Polygamy is not a practice limited to the religion of Islam; rather, it is something well-known in the history of the People of the Book, the Jews and the Christians, as well.  It is only in later times that their religious men frowned upon it or forbade it outright.  However, when we look into the early history of these religions, we will find that it was at least an acceptable practice, if not encouraged.

Polygamy in Judaism

Polygamy existed among the Israelites before the time of Moses, who continued the institution without imposing any limit on the number of marriages which a Hebrew husband might contract.

Let us look at some of the verses from the Old Testament that allow polygamy:

In Exodus 21:10, a man can marry an infinite amount of women without any limits to how many he can marry.

In 2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3, King David had six wives and numerous concubines.

In 1 Kings 11:3, King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

In 2 Chronicles 11:21, King Solomon's son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines.

In Deuteronomy 21:15 "If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons...."

The Jewish Encyclopedia states "While there is no evidence of a polyandrous state in primitive Jewish society, polygamy seems to have been a well-established institution, dating from the most ancient times and extending to comparatively modern days "

Another common practice was the taking of concubines. In later times, the Talmud of Jerusalem restricted the number by the ability of the husband to maintain the wives properly. Some rabbis, however, counselled that a man should not take more than four wives.  Polygamy was prohibited in Judaism by the rabbis, not by God.  Rabbi Gershom ben Judah forbade polygamy in the 11th century yet polygamy is still in practice among the 180,000 Bedouin of Israel. It is also frequent among Jews living in Yemen, rabbis permitting Jews to marry up to four wives.  In modern Israel, where a wife cannot bear children or is mentally ill, the rabbis give a husband the right to marry a second woman without divorcing his first wife.

Polygamy in Christianity

History says that Polygamy was practiced among the Christians , it seems that there were some human resolutions that stopped it. In the eighth century Charlemagne, holding power over both church and state, in his own person practiced polygamy. St. Augustine seems to have observed in it no intrinsic immorality or sinfulness, and declared that polygamy was not a crime where it was the legal institution of a country. He wrote in The Good of Marriage (chapter 15, paragraph 17), that polygamy …was lawful among the ancient fathers……..". He declined to judge the patriarchs, but did not deduce from their practice the on going acceptability of polygamy.

During the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther said, “I confess for my part that if a man wishes to marry two or more wives, I cannot forbid him for it does not contradict the Scripture.” African churches have long recognized polygamy. Early in its history, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints practiced polygamy in the United States.  Splinter groups left the Church to continue the practice after the Church banned it.  Polygamy among these groups persists today in Utah, neighbouring states, and the spin-off colonies, as well as among isolated individuals with no organized church affiliation.

According to Father Eugene Hillman, ‘Nowhere in the New Testament is there any explicit commandment that marriage should be monogamous or any explicit commandment forbidding polygamy.’

The Church in Rome banned polygamy in order to conform to Greco-Roman culture that prescribed only one legal wife.

In the Bible , Jesus never rejected the Old Testament but even allegedly said  "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Matthew 5:17-18) .

There were some situations that imply that Jesus implicitly approved of  polygamy    according to Matthew 5:17-18 above, we clearly see that Jesus honoured the  Old Testament, and forces Christians to follow the unmodified laws of it that have not been replaced by newer ones in the New Testament.  The Old Testament as we clearly see above does indeed allow polygamy without a shadow of a doubt. There is not a single verse from the New Testament that prohibits polygamy. Jesus' parable allows polygamy between 1 man (the bridegroom) and 10 virgins (5 became his wives and slept with him)!  19:1-12  Jesus didn't ban polygamy.

No church council in the earliest Christian centuries opposed polygamy. St. Augustine clearl)'[sic] declared that he did not condemn it. Luther tolerated it and approved of the bigamous status of Philip of Hesse. In 1531 the Anabaptists preached polygamy and the Mormons of today believe in it (see Abd al Ati, The Family Structure in Islam, American Trust Publications, 1977, p 114 : Until this very day, the church in some African countries conducts the marriage of men to more than one wife. In Europe, the attempt to legally enforce monogamy and outlaw polygamy took place as late as the late sixth and early seventh centuries.

In Matthew 19:3, Jesus was asked " whether or not it is allowed for a man to divorce his wife.  Jesus immediately referred to the Old Testament for the answer in Matthew 19:4. According to this, man becomes a one flesh with his wife in Matthew 19:5-6, this doesn't mean that the man can't be one flesh with another woman.  He can be one flesh with his first wife, and one flesh with his second wife, and one flesh with his third wife and so on.

Excerpted with alterations from: Is it Islam alone that allows polygamy? By May Saleh and Magdy Abd AL-SHafy. See here for the entire article:

Invitation to Islam

Hadith, why Prophet Muhmmad did not marry Hamza's daughter

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 37:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: It was said to the Prophet, "Won't you marry the daughter of Hamza?" He said, "She is my foster niece (brother's daughter). "

Some bigots are trying to claim that Prophet Muhammad (p) was inconsistent in marrying the daughter of Abu Bakr (Aisha) while refusing to marry the daughter of Hamza.

However, the Islamophobic bigots would do well to know that Abu Bakr was not the foster brother (through suckling) of Prophet Muhammad (p) while Hamza was a foster brother (through suckling) of Prophet Muhammad (p). Thus Hamza's daughter was the foster niece of Prophet Muhammad (p) while Abu Bakr's daughter (Aisha) was not.

The reason why the Prophet (p) did not marry Hamza's daughter is simply in the Hadith itself - she was his foster niece.

Here's a bit of information from Abu Tariq Hijazi about foster relations through suckling

Islam develops cohesion in society for the general benefit of the mankind. It promotes strong bonds between parents and the children. It expands relationship to even the wet nurses, serving the infants. If a child is reared and suckled by a woman other than the real mother, she is accorded the status of an additional mother called Umm Ridah (foster mother, or milk mother); her husband is treated as the father of the child, and her children real brothers and sisters prohibiting marriages with them. Thus, a woman who nurses a child (more than five times before the age of two years), becomes mother by milk-relation with special rights under Islamic law. The suckled child is considered as a full sibling to the foster-mother’s other children, and as mahram to the woman. No other religion accords such a status to the suckling mothers.

Here's a list of Prophet Muhammad's foster siblings from LastProphet.info (notice that
Hamza is on the list and Abu Bakr is not):

The Prophet’s Foster Siblings

The names of the Prophet Muhammad’s foster siblings were as follows:

Hamza, Abu Salama ibn Abdil Asad al-Mahzumi, Abdullah ibn Jahsh, Masruh, Abu Sufyan, Shayma bint Harith, Abdullah ibn Harith, Unaysa bint Harith.

Hamza: One of the uncles of God’s Messenger, Hamza was breastfed by Lady Suwayba before the Prophet.

Abu Salama ibn Abdil Asad al-Mahzumi: Breastfed by Lady Suwayba, Abu Salama was one of the first Companions to accept Islam.

Abdullah ibn Jahsh: Also breastfed by lady Suwayba.

Masruh: Son of Abu Lahab’s handmaiden lady Suwayba. His mother breasfed him during the same period as the Prophet.

Abu Sufyan: The Abu Sufyan in question is not the father of the Prophet’s wife Umm Habiba, but Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn ‘Abdul-Muttalib, the Prophet’s paternal cousin.

Unaysa bint Harith: Daughter of Harith ibn Abdul ‘Uzza and Halima Sa’diya.

Abdullah ibn Harith: Son of Harith ibn Abdil ‘Uzza and the Prophet’s wetnurse Halima Sa’diya. He was nourished with his mother's milk during the same period as the Prophet.

Shayma bint Harith: Member of the Banu Sad ibn Bakr clan of the Hawazin tribe. Her real name was Huzafa with Shayma being a nickname. She became renowned through the name Shayma, meaning ‘to have a beauty spot.’ Her father’s name was Harith ibn Abdil ‘Uzza and her mother was the Prophet’s wetnurse Halima Sa’diya.

Reason Why Prophet Muhammad Had Many Wives?

A common critique that is brought forth against the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is that he married several women, and a true prophet and man of morals would do no such thing. So why did the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) have several wives? When we examine the women he married, we can divide them into 3 categories, and then we shall be able to properly understand the issue.

The First Category: In the first category of wives, we find that some of his wives were widows, they were women who had children, and their husbands had been killed so they were now left alone. So the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) would marry these widows, and take them into his care, he would look after them, and their children as his own family. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was a leader, so he took it as a duty upon himself to help as many people as possible, now he was 1 man off course, so he couldn’t marry every widow.

The Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) marriages to these widows also served as an example to the Muslims . Widows with children are often viewed as high maintenance, and men often don’t look to widows and their children because it has too much responsibility. So the Prophet was using his marriages to the widows as an example to the Muslims that they too should marry widows, and should not shun them for fear of too much responsibility etc. Throughout Islam we find several teachings from the Prophet in which he advocates and encourages the community to look after the widows, so his marriages to widows was him further advocating that lesson to his people, and he was doing it by example.

The Second Category: In the second category of wives, we see that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) would often marry women of tribes and people with whom he was in conflict with. Now if anyone studies the history of the time, marrying a women of a certain tribe/people would tie you would them, it would create bonds between the two, especially if you were a man of high ranking, and the Prophet was certainly a man of high ranking, he was the leader of community etc.

So the Prophet would marry women of certain tribes who were at war with the Muslims, and by marrying these certain women, he ensured the peace and prosperity with the warring factions. So essentially these marriages were a way of bringing peace, and ending hostility.

The Third Category: In the third category of wives, we see that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) married the daughters of his closest companions, such as Abu Bakr, and Umar. These men were his close companions, they were his right hand men, and they would even eventually become the leaders after the Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) death, with Abu Bakr being the 1st caliph, and Umar the 2nd.

By marrying the daughters of his close companions, he cemented and strengthened the bond and relationship, these men became part of his family, and after all, what is the best way of strengthening your companionship with your closest friends and right hand men?

Conclusion: So in conclusion all of the marriages of the Prophet had a wisdom and context behind them
