Ignorant Pakistani Prayer Leader Honor Kills His Daughter

A man who is reported to have been a prayer leader has honor-killed his daughter because he suspected her of having an affair with a cousin in Karachi. I'd imagine most people in Pakistan will know that honor killings are not allowed in Islam but there has to be a big push to get this information out to the less educated folk and those in the more rural areas as well.

Pakistanis need to get the message over to their fellow country men and women that Islam does not allow honor killings. There are some resources at the bottom of this post for any English speaking Pakistani featuring Hamza Yusuf and Bilal Phillips.

A man who is reported to have been a prayer leader has honor-killed his daughter because he suspected her of having an affair with a cousin in Karachi.

TORGHAR: A prayer leader allegedly gunned down his daughter in the name of honour on Sunday morning.

Villagers said Maulana Taoos of Balyani village in Kandar tehsil suspected his daughter, 17-year-old Zubaida, of having an affair with a relative in Karachi.

On Saturday night, he reportedly subjected her to severe torture, forcing her to confess. After Fajr prayers on Sunday, the maulana shot her dead with an AK-47. Zubaida was later buried by villagers.

Coordinator for the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Zahid Khan condemned the incident and said Torghar still has centuries-old traditions which have claimed the lives of several men and women in the name of honour. Police have yet to register a criminal case against the accused who fled the village after the incident as no one has lodged a complaint. Published in The Express Tribune, May 5th, 2014.

I know a youngster who ran away with a girl. Their parents found them, asked a moulvi what to do. The moulvi said a simple nikkah would be best because they confessed to doing the deed. The End. I don’t understand what kind of person’s first thought is to kill someone. Thank goodness we were born in families who weren’t raised around guns and another’s life is a precious commodity for us to protect.
